Consistency of fuel tanks and humans

I’m getting pretty sick of the inconsistencies of fuel tanks, spalling, penetration damage, and what components can eat all of it. I mostly see it on Russian tanks (because their armor actually matters and they have obnoxious fuel tanks in front).

The issue? Driver’s skulls eating 120mm APFSDS, and internal Russian fuel tanks functioning as ERA, exploding, and eating all spall/damage.

I’d appreciate some consistency. I presume this is some kind of bug. Also it’s not just from older patches, this still happens (happened to me yesterday), and it happens often enough that I had recorded it dozens of times, and eventually just stopped recording it.

They must have nerfed fuel tank explosions. Half a year ago t72 and t80 exploded when you hit the fuel tank, but now for some reason they don’t anymore 🤔.

They definitely did. Shermans don’t explode now when you hit them in the rear third of the hull.

Fuel tanks should act as spaced armor and “eat shots”. That is the whole reason why they place them where they do IRL.

They’ve never been stable, at least for last 3 years. It’s always been a coin toss. Right now it’s ~60% chance of explosion with 120mm APFSDS. Before Seek & Destroy, it was ~40%.

On the first clip it’s intended, I can’t say much because I mostly got destroyed due Fuel Tank explosion,

On the second you had the whole vehicle to shoot but you choose to directly aim at the ERA.

On the third also is intended, people says it’s volumetric I also agree but the reason why such big Fuel Tank is to work as protection, and there worked, something that doesn’t in most of the time I just one tap 2S38 pretty easily.

Precision Gaijin Bias engineering.

crew that have APFSDS pass past their heads probably should be concussed or something, I doubt you would be unscathed from a penetrator rattling past your face inside a tank

Meanwhile in Gaijin’s highly realistic simulator:

Sure. Totally. 100% an explosively formed penetrator and, you know, the entire front hull of the tank flying into its engine would just pass harmlessly inbetween the gunner/commander without even so much as scratching them. Also somehow not damaging the ammo.

There are a lot of issues with WT damage model. A lot of times it’s components absorbing damage.

In this case the missile hit the front armor but the jet passed through another armor piece and the optics, which basically removed all spalling.

Spoiler

While a shot that just goes through the front armor takes out both driver and gunner.

This also happends with solid shot, where all the spalling gets absorbed and the only source of damage is the round hitting components in a straight line.
