Combined Battles To Fix Naval

Ships are surprisingly vulnerable to tanks when they come close to shore. From personal experience in full combined arms custom matches, you need a high-arc, direct High Explosive hit to the roof of the turret or hull with a 120mm+ gun from a ship to destroy most medium and larger tanks in the game. And that’s IF said tank stays still long enough for you to land the hit should you be 5-30km out.

Getting closer than 3-4km to use fast, accurate shelling is dangerous for anything but heavy cruisers and battleships because the hulls and turrets of everything else just don’t have the armor. And even with the heaviest armored ships, you don’t have the fire rate or ability to direct each high-caliber gun onto a different target in order to pin-point apply AP or HE shells through the weak points of various tanks, while they can pummel your turrets, bridge, engines, or obliterate your crew with impunity.

ya that’s kind of a limit to the game engine getting hit by a destroyer cannon IRL could Knock Out a MBT. MBT hard kill systems can stop a Battleship shell which makes little sense as the blast wave would still get to you.

The dancing on the edge cinematic already taught us how this ends…

There is a reason why for every other job battleships where obsolete at but shore bombardment as Iowa could do that job really well. Then again ground troops preferred the heavy cruisers because overkill and slow reload is an issue making massive holes in the ground full of water does not make movement much easier.

Just found out this post finally went through, had no idea I had all these replies. Anyway, this is what I was trying to resolve with coastal guns and terrain. If you think of this suggestion in the way that Gaijin currently operates with balancing, it wouldn’t work. This would take a lot of effort

Yes, it would be optional. Maybe in the events panel, something like nuclear thunder. My goal with this idea isn’t to say that everyone should play a battleship. That’s kind of the point, most of my friends do not play naval so if I want to be with them I have to play a gamemode I don’t prefer. I’d like to play WITH them in a team based mode. You mentioned being at a disadvantage by not playing AA/CAS, then your naval buddies on the map can help cover you. Likewise, your tank fight can help the ships stay alive. My point with this was to imagine a team based gamemode. Everyone helps each other. I’d written a lot more in the way of balance but I found it too long winded. It needs work, yes. But it’s nothing more than a thought experiment.

Sorry that my idea upset you so much.

I think this is the best option. You could bring a small lineup of the ships that you want to use, and they all cost a lot of SP. I’d hoped to avoid this, but I think it is the most realistic way to think of this gamemode.

I would like to see something similar, but only coastal included. Riverflottila vehichles could be implemented in a similar matter, but they would probably get stomped by ground vehichles. But I’m afraid this only could work as an event.

You deserve more recognition than you got for this suggestion, I’ll be real. It’s crazy how some players will absolutely refuse to entertain anything new coming to this game. You would think they’d at leats be happy to have a calm debate over what they think might not work out and how it could be remedied, but oh well I guess 😅

Personally, I’m all for something like this. I think it’d probably be wise to start with a mode where naval operates similarly to air in ground battles where you can save up sp to shake up the game (though I definitely think we’d need to put a cap on how many ships can be used at a time, + maybe even the types so we can’t spawn 2 battleships but you can still get in a cruiser or destroyer). In my mind it makes sense to have at least one cap that they can actively contend, but if they focus too much on it, they’re leaving themselves vulnerable to enemy vessels getting the jump on them.

Ultimately, a much larger map and a much longer game (and maybe more complex objectives) could make this an incredibly fun experiment, hopefully leading to a permanent game mode with good enough rewards to remain relevant.

I’d say make a middle map spawn for coastal vessels to cap thats closer to shore and can be fire on from land but has cover from land and deep sea as well,it would make coastal vessels the star of the mode and imagine shooting a tigers 88 at a american P 501 or 201 or whatever its called haha i don’t know my coastals to well

I think they pretty much test everything with events now honestly lol

If i were playing a game mode like this i’d get enough points on ground then spawn in my new floating spitefire and cap the deep water point haha
