It’s actually not, and realistic to the tank itself:
According to a caretaker of the actual M4A3E2 “Cobra King,” from the National Museum of the United States Army. The second, larger, white stencil markings over the original ones were basically done for clearer legibility and better identification for Tank Company Executive Officers. Most Sherman tanks shipped to Europe, even during delivery, would undergo many factory processes and corrosion-proofing for sea, including having the grease of the anti-corrosion material removed with extremely hot water, which would likely result in the fading of the stencil/registration numbers.
