Coastal Balance/Mode discussion

I’ve seen the other guy trying to make posts a bit less eloquently, so I thought I’d try my hand at more civil feedback.

Coastal is in a terrible place right now. BR-wise, balance is all over the place and certain vehicles like the SKR-7 and Amiens/Arras are running all over everything else with little to no counter when they’re the highest-BR. It’s disparity between vehicle ability unseen to air or ground combat, and it needs to be fixed with massive decompression.

I’ve made this post so others have a place to discuss the state of the mode, and offer up their thoughts.

The problem with wanting a proper coastal game is unless you stick to rank 1 or 2 you can’t. Any higher and Bluewater destroyers appear everywhere, probably being used to counter the corvettes that you’ve mentioned. The fun is being sucked out of this game. I won’t start on BR’s because of thumb RSI.

lmao I assume that was me.

Anyway, whatever it is, it falls on deaf ears.

Now stop complaining and spend $60 on this broken OP russian premium.

Yeah, certainly one of the biggest problems is as a PT boat (or a coast guard cutter like Glaive) you’re utterly outclassed by the Frigates/Avisos… And then even more outclassed by destroyers. Of course, the Avisos are also generally outclassed by destroyers…

And that’s not even mentioning that the 3.3 destroyers are heavily imbalanced themselves, with some having far greater armament (Frunze, Kerch, Churchill, Turbine, Aquilone) than others like the US Clemsons.

While Clemson is not the best in 3.3, I can’t agree it is worse than Turbine/Aquilone(those who have worst reload among all 3.3) and Churchill(who has only one main gun)

Besides, reserve destroyers really needs to be 4.3 starting to ensure proper decompression of coastal.

Inadvertently a 0.7 BR mm would actually balance the mode out extremely especially with how the devs don’t seem eagerly to just decompose this mode, balance is utter abysmal even on the same BR.

One meta is fast firing HA LAA motor boats, the other is slow yet heavy & LA heavy cannons, both have their pros & cons, yet when they meet it’s usually the latter that beats them out eg: Minesweeper Schütze Vs Sloop Arras & both are very OP against surface targets in their own right, Schütze cons are soft while Arras has no AA & stem/stern blindspot.

I personally disagree on the Project 35 point, it only seems OP due to how much it’s spammed yet the vessel has two critical issues that don’t make it OP anymore, I’d personally worry about an Ayanami class (1958] destroyer (Rank V BR 4.3) as that’s incredibly OP an the only thing that make it OP is down to a dev error.

Even then other trees have effective coastal counters to a Project 35, eg Dealey class Ocean Escort, Isuzu class Destroyer Escort, E50 type Frigate, Albatros class corvette, Type 12 ASW Frigate, Type 41 AA Frigate, Buckley class Destroyer Escort (especially with just the secondary batteries), Chikugo class Destroyer Escort, Restigouche class Destroyer, aforementioned Ayanami class Destroyer, Project 133.1 (DDR)/Project 1331M(USSR) MPK/corvettes (DDR is more deadly due to the AK-725), Project 50 SKR/frigates even along with the Project 35 itself & Project 159 SKR/Frigates.

At 3.0/.3 it’s definitely harder but again the supposed “coastal” vessels there’s the River class frigates (RN/FNFL), Akebono/Ikazuchi class Destroyer Escorts, Arras/Marne class Sloops (gods Bougainville class when?).

Mild error there, it’s in an Escort destroyer form of a Town class (1940) destroyer, meaning it’s worse than a US Clemson (was typing this prior to fifth reply).

I have it there with the others because its auxiliary armament allows it to do a lot better against most coastal/air targets than the majority of 2.3-3.3 coastals. That it’s worse at fighting other destroyers is fair, I suppose.

Same for these, they have much better armament for dealing with a wide suite of threats while having the relative toughness of a DD. If I’m in one of the 3.3 vessels actually suited for dealing with destroyers, I’d much rather be fighting a base clemson with no autocannons than any of those I mentioned.

Yeeeeaah, that tracks, tbh with 41 aerial kills with Churchill I45 vs 36 ships sunk to 58 deaths (respawns accounted for) in 86 matches

Surprised no other nations got similar escort ships with mostly LAA like Germany on their converted 1890/1900’s cruisers (pretty sure one was powered). Although Surprised more that Churchill didn’t become a coastal ship, I was gonna suggest that but gaijin made it a rank II requirement last year.

The crews hated* them, often referring to them as oversided corvettes, that also tracks an similarly the corvettes/trawlers have similar good HA LAA, also the SGB if we’re sticking to Britain here.

Still the Turbine class maybe removed tbh, as since it has two 2pdr as HA LAA, same as the Fidonsiy class Destroyer if we’re also discussing HA LAA armament.

E, added to hated
