War Thunder is not a TCG/CCG or some other kind of collecting game. I know how it’s like to be a collector and how it can feel when one of your prized possessions gets rereleased, but there are ways to deal address that.
Just like many other games War Thunder has plenty of ways to honour the fact that you obtained something at it’s original release. Just like limited items in the real world come with certificates of authenticity and serial numbers you can have achievements, titles or cosmetics in-game to show that you owned something before it got rereleased.
The in-game economy wouldn’t be affected at all by rereleases and I don’t get why you would even think that. The Marketplace economy already is highly unstable and you can see proof of that every single time a sought after vehicle appears in coupon form in SL crates. GJN coins cannot be cashed out, but they keep their value as a way to buy GE, packs, premium time and cosmetics. If someone hasn’t sold their coupons for the extremely overpriced vehicles yet that’s their own fault for being so greedy.
And no, SL crates are not reliable in any way, they are purely luck based, no matter how many crates you open.
Agreed. There seems to be this need to assign the values of a tangible collectible to a purely digital good here.
Vehicles are for playing, not owning. I get the need to be a completist, I’m one myself, but whether it’s having the OP vehicle in game that no one else can afford now (yes, I DO have an Object 279, why do you ask?) or hanging on to unplayed coupons just to stare at them, the net effect is negative. Gaijin should feel no obligation to protect either those people’s investments or misplaced feelings of self worth if that is what’s keeping them from growing or retaining their playerbase.
In the end, the game’s maybe biggest selling point is “over 2500 playable vehicles!” If they erode that to make 1000 of those unattainable (or whatever) they will shorten the lifespan of the game by some small amount, at the end of which, whenever that day comes, all those collectibles disappear and all we’ll have left is the screenshots anyway.
Question on the RP bonus for new nations-- is the bonus only for new nations? If I’ve already started research on every nation in the game, am I just locked out of the bonus?
Does the bonus stack for each top tier vehicle I have? What if I have multiple top tier vehicles in different branches (air, naval, land)? What if I have top tier vehicles in multiple nations?
Implemented correctly this could be a great way to incentivize players to keep playing! But the wrong implementation could make people feel cheated, and players are already upset with the delays.
What we’ve heard is it’s an RP bonus for the first few games of every session if you have the top vehicle in another tree and you’re playing a different tree in the same mode. Doesn’t have to be entirely new.
What we’re not clear on is if the bonuses for multiple top vehicles are sequential (so you get 6 bonus games instead of 3 each night) or concurrent (so if you have two top vehicles you get a 20% bonus instead of a 10% bonus for instance (we don’t know the real numbers, those are just examples)).
Hmm, the “same mode” distinction seems kind of arbitrary. If it applied to every mode, it would actually encourage players to branch out into different game modes to get the maximum possible bonus, a win-win for players and Gaijin.
I honestly never understood the so-called “collectors” who just sweat so hard to GET all possible vehicles, even willing to pay 700€ for some Marketplace Tier II copy-paste, and then they proceed to never ever play them because “they just wanted to collect them”.
Best case scenario, they will spade them “because they must” and then stop playing them.
I have seen many Reddit posts of people unironically saying “finally got (X) vehicle/finished (X) tree, I can finally stop playing!” and alikes…
And I can’t help but to wonder; what’s the point of getting vehicles if not playing them and having fun with them? Do they only find joy on “collecting” them to then just… stare at them on the hangar or something?
Not to bash anyone though, to each their own; I just think that approach towards War Thunder is rather… misplaced, hahah. The game being such a varied and comprehensive semi-simulator and some people play it like it’s a card/model kit collection, it just comes off weird to me…
And yeah, sometimes I get a little bitter when I think that some people who actually want to play and enjoy certain vehicles can’t do so because these have been hoarded by “collectors” who want to keep exclusivity over them not to do anything with them instead, hahah (not to mention those who purchase large bunches at fair prices only to then resell them for 10x times the original value. That’s a horrible thing to do in “real life” and so is in War Thunder.)
Yep, not my place to judge people either. I’m just talking about the company’s obligation to the playerbase as a whole. If you just want to look at a vehicle in hangar or in test flight, you paid for it or earned it, that’s up to you, doesn’t hurt anyone.
Coupons are a little more pernicious than hangar vehicles only because every coupon hung onto on an account is a vehicle someone else out there might want to play that is now being denied to them by you. It’s a little different if you’re hanging on to one you might play someday or possibly trade it in for the GJN for a store vehicle some day you want more, that’s again a personal choice, I do it too. Personally if I know I will never EVER want to play or own a coupon vehicle I will sell it and buy something with the GJN/GE I do want, but if I’m not sure about that yet I will hang on to those I earn for a while first because I want to see what else shows up on the store or on the market or for GE that I might want more and can trade it in for then, as basically 1-for-1 swaps. As such, I don’t think Gaijin owes me anything to preserve those coupons’ value, and if anything they should be giving me more things to trade them in for, which they are also conveniently doing for me whenever they put more old vehicles on the market or as GE sales for other people, too. Anyway, sorry for off-topic.
Based on the amount of stats that already are being tracked for each player, I would guess that previously dropped nukes would be counted.
However, we cannot know if they already are tracking that stat for each player individually and if they aren’t they cannot count drops made prior to the release of a new profile/stats page
Nope, i actually have only 1, for F-5A i got from previous SL crate edition. Whatever i had before i sold since i am not the type of person to keep a said coupon for more than a few months at best. I just don’t like the concept of giving away OG quest rewards for nothing. You may agree or disagree, this is just my opinion
The thing is, they are being given away for nothing through luck based means.
While some people are asking for the vehicles to just be buyable for GE or even SL, others have brought up the idea of rerunning the events and/or hosting new events in which such vehicles could be earned.
Previous BP rewards specifically could be made available through Warbonds and vehicles that were available through crafting events and other means would get new events made for them. Vehicles from previous summer and winter events could just show up in the new event cycle.
As I’ve already said, people that already had these vehicles would get some other exclusive reward to show that they participated in the original events.
Another alternative would be to create new variants of these event vehicles, but they would just have a special camouflage. That way the original vehicles would remain exclusive, but others would have a chance to get their hands on the vehicle too. People that already had said vehicles would be able to bring the vehicle twice on ground and naval vehicles if they wanted to as well.
It’s not necessary for these vehicles to just be given out for free or to be sold in-game. They should however be made available to everyone through reliable means and not exclusively through loot boxes.
