No, it never was. The Chieftain 900 was a very cheeky attempt to try and sell a platform that had performed rather disastrously on the international market, with Royal Ordnance’s tank-building factories about to go out of business due to a lack of tanks being bought by the UK and foreign customers.
Essentially out of sheer desperation they tried to find customers for the Chieftain by offering this re-engined and ‘chobham armoured’ variant, but the actual truth of it is Chobham can’t just be slathered over an existing hull and turret as Stillbrew was previously. Actually fitting the Chobham package would have required an entire hull and turret redesign, leading to vehicles like the FV4211 and Shir 2.
Royal Ordnance of course knew this, but they were desperate to sell some tanks, and I can only assume there was going to be a hell of a rush to massively redesign the Chieftain 900 if a customer was actually found.

Has the upgraded transmissions, ammunitions, sights etc all fitted
May even get thermals if I remember rightly.
I imagine it would look something like this. From a 1970’s proposal for upgrading Chieftains.
But who knows, they were never fitted.

Lets be honest, We have a 900 without the composites, so realistically this one if it comes could be another 10.0 or 9.7 with teh composites, and L23A1 with the god damned chieftain reload not 5 seconds like Shir 2 and it would bolster that area nicely.
they already gave us a tin shell chieftain with the steel plating being 5mm thick xD which it was proven to be thicker but I digress.
if it has the composites it could be.
They’ll likely slam L23 on it just to justify it but if they gave it proper L15A5 , composites and all the other kit it would be a nice 9.7 ;MBT
