All that is known is that the IRST used on J-16, J-10B/J-10C is one generation newer than that of the preceding Su-27SK/J-11, Su-30MKK, etc.
It’s likely better but sources are hard to come by even among the Chinese internet.

40km in head-on mode and 100km in pursuit mode
SOurce? We might as well get them ready cause Gaijing is bound to make some mistakes.
Not too bad then, would be good for slinging PL8Bs at altitude without a radar ping.
I appreciate this, if there is anything else you can tell me I’d be very grateful.
Not only for IRST lol
Need to gather sources for both J-11B and J-10B such as radar, rwr, engine, etc.
as long as it has a digital rwr, it should be fine no?
It should be KJ8602A
Which is decent RWR.
Digital RWR on Z10.
Chinese Air Power by Yefim Gordon, Page 72. Only source I have on it.
Unfortunately, you need more than one source to prove to Gaijin.
I know. I’m just saying we’ve got 1 out of 2 sources needed if we will have to bug report an incorrect range on the IRST.
Yeah, I understand.
That beats the one on the Mig-29, J-11, and Su-27 doesn’t it?
These underperform in-game so I don’t see the point comparing atm, Gaijin will likely nerf anything else as well.
By how much?
All IR sources in-game are improperly modeled. AIM-9H should lock F-4’s frontally at up to 5km iirc when afterburning for example. It was nearly impossible to flare the AIM-9H irl when it was chasing an afterburning target. The same could be said for the AIM-9L, but it had better reach. IRST’s in-game have trouble tracking front aspect targets even when afterburning at as much as 10km in some cases.
OLS-35 on the Su-30 should have at least 35km front aspect range and 90 km from rear aspect. Gaijin just doesn’t want long range R-27ET shots right now.
This is truly a bruh moment.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was to make IR missiles more easy to decoy for newer players or something.
Gaijin’s game balancing decisions are questionable at best.
Some of it can be attributed to how top-tier air plays out in general. 16 vs 16 on small maps. It was already chaotic back when we only had SARH but now we have ARH missiles.
Understatement of the entire lifepsan of the game since closed alpha testing in 2011 if I’ve ever seen one.
Man if only there was a way to make maps bigger or teams smaller, unfortunately that is simply impossible or they would have found a way to do it by now.
