The newsletter stated the PL-12A will have more range. Assuming the new changes, PL-12A will either have a better booster, in thrust or burn time, and/or a better sustainer booster.
Hard to find actual info on the PL-12A given how secretive China is with their military tech usually.
From what I’ve seen its not an aesa like the pl15, just a pd radar. Still should be better than before in terms of chaff resistance and especially iog with the new satellite datalink its getting.
Will likely still have same seeker while everyone gets a refresh, hate to say it probably will be worst on arrival, unless gaijin does some work on guidance logic.
It is also not really active so even harder to find stuff.
Only thing ive seen about the 12A is a seeker cone in a museum exhibit. Everything else is 12AE lol we can atleast hope they get said cone correct, tho i think theyll either make an AE and just call it A or take the normal Pl-12 and boost the motor or buff drag.
Im happy we are at last getting a bit more range (i dont really expect anything crazy 10-15% more range) in reality it should be more than 50% but this is gaijing
PL-12AE is most likely the export version of the PL-12A. Unlike the designations SD-10 and SD-10A, PL-12AE directly uses the PLA’s domestic model number followed by an “E” as the export designation code. Gaijin probably holds the same view, as AVIC has only publicly released the general specifications for the PL-12AE.
It would be best if it’s not just a seeker change. The Chinese tech tree has lacked a missile with a range corresponding to the 771 and the 120C for a long time. The PL12A/AE is the perfect counterpart to them. The PL12’s range and its unusual flight profile cause it to be completely inferior to the 120C and 771 when engaging targets at slightly longer distances.
The PL-12A’s 120 km range and its new seeker (GNSS) correspond to the officially leek120D. Community manager 1080p stated that the 120D is the base model, and compared to the 120C, it has no propulsion optimization, only optimizations to the seeker and flight trajectory.
Could you tell me where Smin mentioned the upgrades to the AIM-120D, particularly regarding the seeker, propulsion section, and flight profile? That new version rumor discussion thread is very long, and I’m having trouble finding it.
This is the original topic post, featuring the community manager’s response regarding the 120D version. It is the base model 120D (early). From what I understand, the 120D3 is the version with the improved rocket motor. The 120D only changed the seeker and optimized the flight trajectory. Overall, apart from the brand-new seeker, its improvements over the 120C are not significant.
PL12A fills the gap in the Chinese tech tree’s lack of a 120 km-range missile. Meanwhile, I speculate that both the PL12A and the 120D will serve in the next version as tests for the new seeker mechanics, particularly the GNSS functionality. This would act as a preliminary test for the seeker capabilities of future true top-tier missiles (like the R77M, 120D3/C8, 260, and PL-15).
Issue is there are range improvements for AMRAAM C that are not really implemented in game, or in a nerfed way. They could just compensate for it in one go. This so far will 100% go to the superhornets, F15s and EFs are unknown for now but I doubt it.
