Right now, at a BR of 14.0, the Finnish Hornet lacks features that others have at the same battle rating (The lack of pilot HMS, and the notable lack of any A2G ordnance).
HMS is necessary at top tier, especially for closer range engagements, to make use of features such as missiles and radar locks.
As of now, Sweden does not have the CAS capabilities that other nations at top tier have, relying solely on the JAS39C.
To solve these issues, the Hornet in the swedish tech tree should be modeled after the later MLU-2, which was capable of carrying Litening AT targeting pod on the centre pylon, as well as the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS). For A2G ordnance, the Hornet should be able to carry AGM-154C JSOW, AGM-158 JASSM, and other JDAMs.
The MLU-2 was also fitted with SAAB BOL pods. (4x, 160 cms each), on pylon stations 2 and 8.
These additions would help the Finnish Hornet be at the standard that other 14.0s(namely the F/A-18C Late, which is a direct upgrade at the same battle rating, and others such as the F-15E, EF2K, Rafale and Su-30SM).
I personally think having the one MLU 2 over multiple different f-18s is the better approach and it will give something unique to the Finnish while strengthening the lacking Swedish Air to ground capabilities.
Sure sure, lets grind another 420k RP for just some A2G mods, bro why? Same thing with the GRIPEN A/C grinding the whole plane+mods just for fox3s, why would anyone want to waste time grinding another plane for A2G munitions?
I would prefer to have both tbh, what they could do is:
F-18C currently ingame should be F-18C MLU 1
F/A-18C MLU 2 should be added after it
F-18C (Pre-MLU 1) could be an event or premium down the line
For those that dont know, MLU 1 upgrade added HMS, some stuff that doesnt matter for gameplay and the capability to mount better A2A weapons like AIM-9X.
I don’t mind them splitting it into two aircraft. sure a bit sad it isn’t the newer one that comes to the game first, but hey, that’s been the case for many other jets as well so.
I think the introduction of vehicles has outpaced the introduction of mechanics and as the Game director themselves said; air has outpaced ground.
I have said for a while that i personally wouldn’t mind a slower pace on the vehicles but putting more focus on gameplay/bugs/historical issues/mechanics/etc. I also understand that the average player mostly will care about getting new shiny vehicles but how fun will that be if the vehicle is a vehicle by name only because the mechanics/ordinance are not in game yet to make it the vehicle it actually is IRL.
Well true until they add more capable SAM systems. it didn’t have to be the case though, they could have added more modern jets without giving them a bit to overpowered air-to-ground ordinances.
I personally fail to see how it’s better CAS, if its the same ordinance and just better airframe then if the previous available CAS could already easily dodge missiles then the situation for ground is still going to be the same.
