I have an issue and I could not find anything about it here. So I am making new post.
I would like a help with helicopters sight for unguided missiles, which I absolutely despise. Too broad, unprecise and sometimes even obstructing. Looks like this:
Thank you before hand. Even if you tell me to go get lost or that I am spamming, since it has already been discussed and point me in the right direction. Any intel is appreciated.
Have a nice day!
Edit. Incorrect image. and Bad grammars and typos.
The reason it is a vertical bar instead of a dot its because with the ballistic computer either the rockets can hit at the top, middle or bottom of that bar. Its not as precise as planes (I presume bc velocity?)
And about helis with no ballistic computer, well you can slow down you heli like 80% usage of engine to try your rockets aim be almost the same as the bar. But personally I just shoot a couple to range, everything with the eye I ignore that bar.
It is nice to know reason, but what does it change? Meaning you have knowledge to know, where can your missile go off. Do You actuallly care about this information?. There is nothing you can do with it. The missiles would go off same as they do now, only change would be, that the sight would not tell you how and why can your missile mess it up and miss.
You can’t change it as far as I know, you just have to learn to aim with it.
The HUD is like that because it’s how the HUD looks on US helicopters for rockets IRL and it hides the fact that rockets are much more accurate in War Thunder than IRL plus it adds a gameplay challenge and a skill level to use it effectively. IRL rockets are “area of effect” weapons that you fire, in mass, in the general direction of the enemy. They would spread about 10 times what they do in WT.
To make people able to get kills with them Gaijin made them into point attack weapons, that all hit very close to the same spot, but then chose a difficult HUD to make the player the cause of dispersion.
Thanks! I had a suspicion that this was the case. And for me personally, I know how to use that sight. But as I said, the planes dot would be the perfect scenario. Helis HUD does obstract a view and you can not use it effectively past 5-8km (Depending on which rocket).
The fixed sight is the standard unguided rocket sight given for all aircraft (fixed wing and helis) without a ballistic computer. Without that, its down to the pilot to essentially form an educated guess as to where to aim
an aircraft with a ballistic computer will switch to dot reticle which will indicate where the computer has calculated the impact point, this has limited range, but is usually more than enough range.
If you select customisation, switch to xray and hover over the pilot, it will tell you if you have CCIP for rockets.
Xray Tooltip
External symbology is generic and shared across all nations.
The screenshot looks like the Mi-28NM? If so, it does have Rocket CCIP.
Which then leads onto the next matter. Cockpit symbology. This is typically modeled accurately to best available information and can differ greatly between aircraft. There is a keybind to cycle cockpit sight modes you could try to select the correct mode, but is unlikely to change anything.
There is no way to customise either the external UI or cockpit HUD at this time
Should I create a suggestion? I am not really seasoned forum veteran. I dont know if it is worth it, or if this is even plausible to pass.
Does not seem as resource heavy change, where in a same time bringing some huge outcome. Especially if we could do all vehicles/aircrafts/vessels.
Can someone help me? I am very confident, that you can change it in config.blk
Sadly there are thousands and thousands lines and I do not know what to look for?
