There’s not much selection with MK 108 rounds.
You either get:
- the plane melter 9000 (incendiary round) or
- the plane skin remover 9000 (high explosive round)
There’s nothing else.
Also Ki-109 is now a DEMON due to this buff, you are basically unkillable (even more than in Air RB since airfields are closer) and SPAAs just can’t do anything to you

It was an interesting read, thx, it says that fuselage attacks are pretty much harmless, while wing attacks can damage aerodynamic capabilities from 3-5 shells. Then it says that these shells are not effective to make fuel tank fires.
Let’s compare to WarThunder, except 0 meters point blank, perfectly perpendicular from above and hitting the fuel tank directly without passing through any other components annnd…
Not even skin damage.
I know this protection analysis is a Lancaster and not the Halifax of the tests but come on.

The HE ones no. However the incendiary ones were extremely effective even when they had to penetrate through a flap and wing structure.
And, the HE shells were only noted to be ineffective since they directed most of their fragmentation sideways and could not effectively pierce the wing spar, which is reasonable.

I was playing against americans in a previous match… they didn’t even manage to get me out of the Ho-Ni II until I was 15 kills in.
A previous match against mostly russia ended before I really got a good score. Still, 5 ground kills with the boat is okay.
But there was literally nothing they could do about me other than getting very lucky and hitting my pilot. I can just fly right over the battlefield, shoot SPAA, shoot tanks, shoot planes, return to base while on fire, doesn’t matter. As long as the match lasts long enough I can get way too many kills for way too little effort.

They said that this change is only a first step and there will be more, I expect them to actually separate skin and structure
Well it’s a good thing that the incendiary rounds were specifically stated to do heavy structure damage in those tests. Spewing thermite inside the plane and all that.

Do you even own it?
Example:
A wing spar has 100 health and takes 100 rounds to destroy, decreasing the health of the spar by 10% decreases it to 90, rounds required go destroy go down to 90.
You can put it either way and the result won’t change.
Incremental change is better than anything else.
Incendiary rounds have always been a joke in this game, it’s why you only see the incendiary of the MK 108 in the default belt and nowhere else. Gaijin knows it sucks and has known that it sucks for years, so they take advantage of it to make stock grind more frustrating so you’ll spend more GE.
It’s even more ridiculous when you realize that the default belt is actually the recommended belt for the MK 108 as a bomber hunter, a half/half distribution of HE and Incendiary, because the incendiary is actually really useful.
The only exceptions is for upwards firing Mk 108s, which makes sense from the British tests where HE rounds work if coming from below, or instead of using the 50/50 split using only the mine-incendiary round which was a mix of both HE and incendiary.
Don’t need to. There’s no hordes of XA-38s running around, therefore it was not buffed.
And it’s not on the list.
And this is why your comments are very biased. Not owning things / have used them means 0 experience in it.
But i still think that a wing root of a B-17 should be structurally damaged enough to be ripped off after a lot fewer rounds than in the video i posted. 10-15% simply Isn’t going to cut it.
You have to take into account that the wing didn’t even get ripped off in that video. Who knows, probably could’ve tanked the same amount twice, or more.
