Wisdom pursues you, yet it seems you are ever faster. Giving you the benefit of the doubt you want to argue in good faith, but really struggling.
Nothing in the above statements highlight you are actively engaging in pvp. They highlight that it is an inherently PvP environment. You can make these decisions, because you are not searching for a bomb target, as you’ve just highlighted. Now, instead of having that target marker to guide your decisions and provide continued awareness, you are proposing you have to search for it.
I don’t know if you’ve tried, it seems you haven’t, but you are not discriminating that target from background unless you’re sitting in the bombsight, especially with the absence of the red mark in bombsight. As soon as you sit in the bombsight, you can kiss the awareness you are taking for granted goodbye. Suddenly, you cannot choose to evade inbound threats whilst you search, as those inbound threats are not presented to you. You cannot engage them with cannons, nor begin maneuvers, assuming you’re even aware of the inbound threat.
Unless, of course, you give up searching. You seem intent on arguing this is fair. You fail to grasp that this is not fair. Because you equate it to “Oh, we can just turn off the bombing run, or perform defensive actions”. Sure, when you know where the target you’re returning to is, that’s fine. But you encourage removing that aspect, and thus the search must begin again.
If this behaviour is conducted with a heavy bomber, not only do you have to take multiple paths over a target to identify it, you do that slowly. Assuming you have to conduct these searches several times because you were magically aware of inbound threats and turned off the search? Oh look, the match is done or the faster more nimble attackers ate the targets because they had the freedom to search more rapidly.
Bombers do not exist in a vacuum. They exist in a pvp focused environment. Taking away the information relevant to their target objective only serves to make them even less effective in that environment, because of the amount of attention it takes to discriminate targets from background meshes. They do not have to engage with pvp, but they do exist in a pvp environment, and thus require the same awareness the rest of the players engaging in pvp are provided. Especially of their objectives, given it is the only part they can engage with.
Your position does not account for the pvp environment they find themselves in, simply the point the bomb is dropping. The bomb is not dropping in a perfect pve vacuum where we have hours to conduct sorties and identify targets. Your suggestion to remove the awareness of the objectives in RB is equivalent to removing markers for air to air targets for fighters. Macro decisions cannot be made with the absence of information, and bombers rely on macro decisions.
The counter example you provided to @KhorneFlakez1337 is pretty indicative you have not tried to engage with this proposal in an actual air match. Bases are not remotely as distinguished from the environment around them as you seem intent on claiming.
