Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

Gaijins original plan was (and probably still is) a new mode called “Aerial Warfare”, which would be a more advanced version of the EC mode that still shows up in regular ARB (the bigger versions of maps like Afghanistan, Spain and Vietnam).

Nuclear Escalation started out as another stage of testing for that mode, similar to Deep Strike.

It would be a shame if Nuclear Escalation ends up being the only new mode and Deep Strike and other concepts just get scrapped, but at this point, I’ll take anything that isn’t just a glorified deathmatch mode.

Id like to see this style of mode replace “classic” entirely, just dont have nukes until the bracket that gets B29/Washington. The gameplay loop is far more free and doesnt punish you back to hangar isntantly like classic, honestly the mode could be ass and still be better just from that.

Smin confirmed that its bracket based BRs rather than “screw you heres an uptier” so we will need to wait to see whats in what bracket too

hope that NE is just the 8.7+ version of this.

The perception of unfairness is quite malleable, though.

Make killing a bomber yield the reward of four kills, and suddenly everyone will shift from “This fight is a waste of time, I quit” to “this fight is a high-value opportunity,” somehow reframing the difficulty as a desirable challenge

I bet they can do a “Nuclear Escalation: Korea” for 6.7-8.3 and “Nuclear Escalation: World War” for 4.7-6.3 or something. Or at least the first one as it could theoretically have the oldest SAM site variants, without the need to make a flak site logic (tho it won’t be historically accurate but who cares, S-25 is cool as well).

I’d imagine that NE was meant to be a sub-mode, but considering Deep Strike hasn’t been tested again, I feel like that NE is gonna be the new mode and lower BRs could be barred from participating for Gaijin reasons.

Smaller battle sizes are only available at high BRs, night battles are only available at, what was it, 10+?

Deep Strike? Is that the mode where we defended/attacked modular factories? I thought it was a test for future NE target additions. Like, big modular cities/factories in the rears.

i was hoping to see a 6.7-8.0 bracket for NE so that all the trainer jets can have fun too ngl. really depends on how gaijin goes forward in finally moving on from the archaic classic mode.

They already have a module system for that stuff, it’s only used in Sim right now.

Deep Strike was a test for asymmetrical battles and the inclusion of helicopters in an aerial mode.

I think the original vision was a match browser similar to the one they use for Sim where you can play multiple modes, which would include Nuclear Escalation, Deep Strike, regular EC and whatever else they might come up with.

Well with bombers being really tough nuts to crack we do need some new pinyatas, i welcome helis to be that as i hate them in game

Or maybe its asymmetric nature is a hint to a world war mode revival. Like, your faction sent planes to bomb that factory, enemy faction had there anti-air units and sent some interceptors to defend. Now the battle has started and its result will affect the world map or something.

(I miss HnG world war mode thingy, it was fun even tho it was unbalanced ah)

I like playing helicopters

I hate playing against helicopters

Would be fun to have a mode where I can attack helis with A2G weapons on a more regular basis.
Watching a heli get annihilated by huge PGMs is incredibly satisfying lol

They did mention that they want to bring back World War mode, but I don’t think they have said or shown anything beyond that mention lol

BVVD on recent devstream said something about ww mode still being worked on, iirc.

i cant think of anything less boring than two LDIRCM helis trying to duke it out over more than 3km lol. a2a missiles useless, guns useless. only saclos missiles. how dull

heli vs plane duels can be pretty fun tho from both sides, assuming it can be like a harrier VTOL stall fight.

If helis had more things to do than just a2a or a2g against the same targets, they could be fun to play. Heliborne is an example.

NE just needs slightly more target types...

… and maybe objectives for half-transport helicopters like bring troops from A to B to reinforce/upgrade/capture B, at least something for them to do to affect the situation on the map.

Ah, and naval helicopters with ASMs, mines and torpedoes and a takeoff from a ship with helicopter pad, useless but cool :P

My go-to for helicopter games is the Comanche series, but Heliborne is a great example too

cool story but

Clearly the HE shell is penetrating and the fuse delay is working as intended.

again: cool story but even if the spar hadn’t been hit and collapsed, we’re missing the giant fuel fire that immediately engulfed the entire wing root, caused by a 75mm HE shell blowing a hole from top to bottom through the fuel tank

BK 3.7 fires much slower. Either it’s two 20mm cannons or one of them has jammed.

you do not know what shearing is apparently

lol

I should make a supercut of all the stuff I’ve had these bombers survive

It’s a bomber issue.

Unless you think ze germans just hallucinated all their night fighter tactics and targeting fuel tanks with upwards-firing guns, where protection was weakest, was all just one big hoax and for some reason the british went along with it

if gaijin keeps up with naval, “modern” top tier is gonna be so sweet with ASMs, SAMs and all kinds of craziness. Bet soyuz will still be oppressive tho

they are already adding more naval stuff than they used to

probably because they are running out of other stuff to add
