not all gunpod ammo missed, it only missed a little in the end
The starting ammo count on the 30mm is 1166…not 1066.
1166 - 929 = 240
240 * 0.80 = 192
The staring ammo count on the 20mm pods is 2378
2378 - 1694 = 684
684 * 0.80 = 547
You are seriously arguing that a B-17 should be able to tank this many rounds.
Oh but shoot for the critical parts like the engine?
It only takes around 30-40 37mm shells to the same engine to finally bring the bomber down. This is far from realistic.
AP or HE, Are you blasting the outer skin or the inner structure, despite both being strong enough to hold a b17s wing on, you gotta get both. Now ima record the A-10 on the dev server myself and give you guys a real PRECISE count
Here you guys go, A video where I recorded in one take and counted FRAME BY FRAME, whilst being close to avoid missing any shots, and to reduce the number of rounds that have already left the barrel but havent hit the plane. B17 wing? Comes off in as little as 34 rounds from the gau-8 with default belts which are 50/50 HE and AP.
This is not the “realistic” damage that you think that it is. It just further proves how ridiculous the new damage model is.
34-84 rounds is ridiculous? Did you even look at the pictures I posted? The amount of redundancy and spare strength in that B17s wing structure makes this seem pretty spot on. You gotta realise that 30mm rounds in comparison to the sheer scale of a heavy bomber like a b17, arent really punching big holes in it relative to size, you are poking construction paper with a threading needle, shooting an elephant with a pistol, etc. half of these around are blowing up on the outside peppering the skin with shrapnel, and gaijin has established light shrapnel (40g of tnt filler in this case) doesnt damage wing spars. And then you got AP, which are just punching 3cm holes in the internals, having to literally saw through so many different struts and spars. Basically what Im saying is, a b17 is not a p51, this is a massive plane you can walk around in, and bullets are tiny compared to it.
Yes 34 - 84 rounds drilled through the exact same spot at point blank range with the Gau-8 and into the engine is ridiculous. Taking 40 rounds of 37mm is ridiculous.
Prove its ridiculous lol. Gaijin made all of these changes with actual historical documents and reports. Its you vs gaijin now, im going to bed
i assume your already aware of this, but just to remind you this is what roughly 30 rounds of gau8 (assuming they are AP rounds) should do to a light tank
Thicker armor lets the round punch larger exit holes vs just acting like a hole punch, even then you can plug those holes with like 3-4 fingers, and uhhh heres the size of a tank
And heres the size of a b17

Kill that with finger sized holes, you can practically fit a whole sherman into its bomb bay
Wait…you think 30mm HE rounds are going to only put finger sized holes in the plane?
Do you have trouble parsing information? I was making that comment regarding his statement about AP, and I already made a specific mention of how HE interacts with the plane, and how its shrapnel for a round that “small”, doesnt actually damage the internal structure of the wing. That wing being made with such redundancy that the skin, or the spar and ribs alone could support the b17s heft.
So like back in the olden days pre tanks XD
was there did that
Hell yeah, but we gotta try and keep nostalgia and personal bias out of this, dont give the fighter mains ammunition to justify their cope and try and shut this down. Simply disprove them with facts and logic
The spar isn’t going to produce lift.
Historically it only took around 5-6 30mm shells to bring down a B-17 when fired from a fighter.
1, Correct, a spar isnt going to produce lift. BUT it also isnt going to just let the rest of the wing that is still producing lift detach.
2, post your historical documents for the 5-6 30mm shells taking down a B17 then, Im sure it will disprove gaijin’s historical documents that theyve scrounged up over months at least :P
The B17 “Snake Hips” Literally had an 88mm flak round go off INSIDE of its open bomb bay and it made it home without breaking apart
Dude as much as it was fun back than this now is bs
Wings staying on pretty good despite there being more sky visible than wing, especially on the right one

Tail didnt come off

Tail didnt come off
Wing didnt come off, gaijin said themselves that most bomber losses were not to structural failure, and ontop of that, most structural failures were from heavy anti air guns than other aircraft. Operational research on 1943–44 heavies: 61% of bombers shot down were already stragglers. Flak knocked a lot of them out of the box (engine-out, ~38% of “left formation” causes). Fighters then finished 85% of the airworthy stragglers. So a lot of “fighter kills” start as flak damage Going to bed now
How many of these are after 80 rounds of Gau-8 or equivalent?
First picture is likely flak damage. No indication of plane actually landed succesfully.
Second picture is of a plane that crashed in Italy.
Third picture is possibly from single cannon round. Note how not only the skin is blown off but also the internal structure.
Fourth is also quite possibly from single round.
