Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

his whole argument is just anger against fighter mains rather than making a logical point, he thinks 78 rounds of concentrated gau8 shots on a b17s engine/wing is perfectly normal, let alone the fighters b17s face at that br, they wont be able to kill a b17 at all most of the times

More trouble parsing information, See, the argument we’re having isnt " Can the bomber fly home" Its been “Does the bomber break APART from fire”, We’ve proven no, and to that 4th picture, single round? Possibly, from anything in the sky? HELL no, thats an 88, a 105, a 128, whatever. These air based HE rounds have like 30-40 grams of filler? These are basically large, metal cased fire crackers

Damn, how did germans ever take down B17 if it can tank 88mm shells without any damage on average. It seems allied crews crashed almost all their B17 that were lost to surrender to Germans.

The Gau-8 isnt some god weapon, its just a 30mm with spicy AP rounds. And yes, b17s shouldnt die to the first pass to an unskilled unaiming player, maybe even the second, thats the whole point of this rework. your whole “78 rounds isnt normal” argument is null, thats not even two seconds of trigger time with said gau-8, an a-10 is killing a b17 in the first pass, and that makes sense, but a ww2 fighter? Well thats not an a-10

Note how single 30mm shell from Mk.108 was enough to cause lethal damage on medium bomber. Do we think B-17 is somehow magically 100x more durable?

That is a blenheim. A “light” bomber. Calling a B17 100 times more durable wouldn’t be a far stretch. It was the RAF’s first attempt at an all metal bomber and was VERY small, a mere 2 feet longer and wider than the mosquito. The B17 quite literally has more than double the wingspan and weighs 4 times more empty than the mosquito or blenheim. And I dont see any mention of what or how many of what ammo they shot it with, all I see is this tiny plane, where the wing is thin, tanks are in it, and there’s not much spar redundancy, still managed to receive all those hits, where only got ONE case of “structurally lethal” occured, which is what we’re debating, Try again.

Also while you went and found that ive been single passing B17s wings with the ta152 in test flight, when facing an opponent that can aim for WEAKSPOTS, (wings, cockpits, just nuke the elevators, whatever gets registered as severe damage to credit you the kill) these bombers still die, so as Ive said time and time again, the damage model feels pretty damn good. And everything ive been reading by now has just been fighter cope at how they now need to aim at points, not unlike tanks, instead of clicking and getting the funny kill bell, just aim and improve at the game. Goodnight for real now.

Also nearly all were lethally aerodynamically, which would be what; loss of control surfaces? Loss of lift?

I shoved that report in grok to get a quick and dirty answer and it came back with a british field test where Lethal aerodynamically means the Structure may still be attached, but the shape of the wing/controls is so wrecked the thing will have a damn hard time flying.

Also apperantly this test was done with hispanoes at 200m

Oh boy I look forward to seeing you in sim while I am flying the Qing-6 then…
I really hope this change goes live because we can finally kill off any enjoyment of sim for average players.

Cant wait to just spray some .50 from the front at your cockpit and paste both pilots in the first pass, its just that simple lol, and if you cant manage that in sim, well, thats your skills with flying on full display, not the bombers fault ;)

Lol okay bud. I look forward to it. Surely you are better than basically every other sim player out there.

Better than every player? Absolutely not. Better than most? Thats a little closer to the truth, also helps to have some actual practice flying planes, nyes?

Not a single prop fighter in sight.

You probably shouldn’t be telling sim players that they just need to learn how to aim when you clearly are not capable.

Trouble parsing information again pal? Ya got a yak 3, a p63, me410, p61, and spitfires right there, positive on all of em but the spit, and the last time i touched those were back with my mouse joystick before i chudded it out in il-2 for awhile. But yes I do need to dust off the props with my stick and headset, it would be more fun than clubbing with missiles

Those are your sessions dating all the way back to when Statshark started tracking…so once again…not a single prop since at least March 2025.

You will be food for the Qing-6 dynasty.

That timeline sounds about right, and really, you’re getting pilotsniped by me, everyone above me, and quite a few people below me aswell, its not that hard to do. Anyway back onto the topic of wether a B17 should crumble to pieces from a whiff of cannon fire to the point where daylight bombing raids would be literally unfeasible

I very much doubt it. 23mm is going to 1 shot you before you get close 99% of the time.
