Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

One of the makor issues i my opinion
Wins being made more durable is truly an amazing addition, after all half these planes have “fortress” in the name for a reason.
However
Them being straight up invincible, not so sure.
There should be some leniancy with high capacity HE, like pheonixes, large missiles / SAMs, and high caliber rounds, being able to deal overpressure damage to modules or even destroying wing spars.
The B-17 being able to eat a few poorly aimed bursts from german 20mms is completely realistic despite what half the community thinks. However, it shouldnt eat missiles. The only aircraft that even have a chance at that are the buff and bear, and even then it might only be able to take one or two near misses

Really wish we had a ammo counter/bar similar to the machine guns on the tanks, so we could have an idea of how much ammo is left in the belt and how long until it is reloaded.

They actually forgot a whole list of bombers to update the damage model on. For some of them it is weird that they actually forgot to update the damage model on them. For example the B18A and T18B have the old damage model, while the B18B and T18B (57) have the new damage model. And nearly all French bombers have the old damage model.

I think thats just dev server shenanigans, it is wip after all, they probably are focusing on the big and famous heaviest first before working their way down to the more obscure stuff, knowing players will be checking the likes of the b17 first

Well im messing around in a wt custom, I get gunned by a tu95, and catch fire, the fire isnt an instant death but it does spread at a slow/moderate pace, damaging the aircraft to the point where I cant keep it level, and then an aster 30 oneshots my ungamaged tail section off, Feels about right to me guys idk, it gives bombers a more cinematic and slow death, and a chance for the player to fight for their aircraft within reason

@FeetPics @NotKringe and anyone else posting these videos of bombers tanking “thousands of rounds” and 6 aim 54s… learn to aim, and learn how to properly employ missiles in scenarios where they arent confused by multiple targets. Observe. Bomber damage model

Aim for the pilots through the plane? Plane dies quickly, Shoot the wing wheres its not specifically reinforced to hold engines? You saw through it. Shoot a missile in a situation where it isnt getting confused and blowing up nowhere near any target? The plane receives catastrophic damage and falls out the sky. Besides the body checking other planes part id say drop it on live already lol

Do you think that damage model is realistic? Do you think this will be good for gameplay? Especially in sim?

Realistic? Id say its pretty damn close. I can see how a vulcan would saw through a wing in about that time, How it would work in sim? The issues with bombers is the mouse aim turrets and 3rd person. No matter how tanky a bomber is, the issue in that mode is how effective it is in an offensive role with how its turrets are implemented. And irl, would a SINGULAR FIGHTER go and 1v1 an entire bomber bristling with guns? There a reason german fighters liked making headon passes aiming at cockpits and glass domes of B17s in ww2, it was more reliable to try and incapacitate crew than to inflict a full on structural failure on these machines. Its why the B17G added a chin turret to help counter this threat!

your argument of people not being able to aim is genuinly stupid, all the clips posted here clearly show atleast hundreds of rounds being shot at one place consistently, like that a10 clip for example, atleast 90% of those cannons hit the bomber and it took around 1000-1500 rounds to clip the wing off, so your telling me that a plane made to rip modern tanks in half in a 2-3 second burst cant take down a ww2 bomber?

This has to be some sort of joke if this gets applied to the ju288c, a plane that completely destroyed a whole br range for years. It already survives all sort of bs as is

1: He shot into the reinforced area of the wing with the landing gear and two engines. Yes, its going to be tanky. 2: Buddy, we can SEE his ammo counter, he fired 175 rounds from the gau-8 before the wing came off ON THE REINFORCED AREA, and not even all of those hit, nowhere NEAR 1000-1500, where did you learn to count? 3: Before you even mention the 20mm gun pods, he doesnt have vertical targetting set, and if the 30mm is hitting, then the 20s are going UNDER the wing and flying past, as we can see from the sheer amount of tracers flying under the wing and out infront of the B17, so my “Learn to aim” argument stands. All I see is a bunch of fighter mains coping that they’ll actually have to TRY against bombers after a DECADE of paper mache supremacy. Bombers were tanky in the past, and players managed fine. Bombers and aircraft in general lost their durability starting with the addition of helicopters messing up all aircraft damage models thanks to their explosive bolt tails. Its about time bomber fans can actually play these vehicles in a manner that isnt pure suffering only managable by drinking so much you forget you played said bomber the following morning, or pure space climbing boredom. Hopefully this rework trickles its way down to fighters too, more engaging dogfights, stuff like p47s being a little tankier, etc

Ju288’s size should let it survive more “BS”, But the core issue is its time to get to target and how often enemies end up behind it. Ju288 can be fixed by changing how bombers affect a match/changing their spawns. Maybe even drop the Ju288s spawn height

Do you have any source that says the B-17 can’t survive 6 Phoenix missiles?

I mean, It cant survive 1 as shown in my video instead of having it average out 3 targets and just explode harmlessly in the middle of the formation

ok, since im bad at math, ill let you do the calculation because your very good at it

now calculate the bullets used and multiply them by .8, assuming 20% of those shots missed, now tell me what value you get, and your answer will 100% be correct as your very good at math

Lmao, THATS your counter argument? Ill play your game.

Here is the very frame you can see the wing come off. He has 926 Rounds left, 1066 - 926 = 140, 140 times 0.8 for your optimistic 80% hit rate and that leaves us with 112 rounds flat, Congratulations, you proved that the bomber is even less durable. Actually it comes off at 929 rounds left, but at 926 its obvious through the smoke the wing has detached in a screenshot. There you go, happy now? No? I can go further, A-10s GAU-8 belts are 50/50 between HVAP and HE. So youve got 56 AP rounds punching marely 3cm wide holes through the internal structure, and 56 PGU-13/B HE rounds with ~40g of explosive filler peppering the outside of this structure.

Heres 2 for 2 with R27ET’s that have 3kg less filler than the Aim54, idk

I believe bombers do technically have a finite number of belts. For example, Tu-4 has 200 belts in total, 40 for each turret. Though, this is indeed effectively infinite as far as a match is concerned.

my guy, you didnt even calculate the gunpod ammo, and first of all he started out with 1166 30mm bullets

Gunpods missed as previously stated and uhhhhh I dont care about the typo atp, the amount of rounds he probably actually hit is around what we just calculated even with our 100 round deficit, shove in an extra 80 rounds or whatever to all this crap, see if it cares
