I think you got the wrong guy, I never claimed B17 could or should tank missiles, infact ive been the one sending videos of them NOT doing that to disprove some people posting some frankly ludicrous footage, now some target drones did tank em, and b52s in vietnam tanked larger, but these are very much one off cases that may happen rarely in war thunder
The game does not represent reality objectively either since the mode of engagement isn’t the same.
Since the mode of engagement isn’t the same you can’t compare the results of these engagements. A good model might actually result in a large % of tail separation in WT simply due to players attacking in different ways compared to real life
You know that even if they release as it is now (broken) soon or later they will patch it right? Cuz it will affect every game mode drastically.
Bombers will go up in BR and they may even reduce the rewards for it since you are immune to the majority of the rounds now.

Agree with this. Hitbox model should be able to account for the spatial distribution of hits, distinguishing the degree of clustering among them. Obviously it’s not the same for the airframe if all the hits are spread evenly across its surface versus if they all land in the same small area or along a continuous line, creating a significant stress concentration point - the latter should have a much higher chance of structural failure.

That’s true, but that point doesn’t necessarily make it fail at the moment of the impact. What it does is weaken the structure and increase susceptibility to failure under variable loads. In fact, I’d agree that a damaged aircraft with fragment holes in the spar could break apart when attempting several high-G maneuvers.
ASMs have code where the missile just randomly picks 1 of 3 points instead just going for the centre point.
They could just do the same for the IR Missiles. Have each engine a target point and have the missile just go for which ever is closest rather than going for the aircraft’s centre
