Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

I’ll work on a suggestion later with an upvote if I don’t forget.

Its needed in a lot of places, in basically every gamemode. Which naturally means it wont be added :P

It’s a really sloppy visual model that they should start updating at some point.

I think it is about time we could assess the plane’s damage directly on the structure itself -meaning it shows actual peeling-off and bulging affecting performance. Just relying on that abstract gradient telling you that you have a black wing about to suffer catastrophic failure, when there’s just a small a puncture decal there, is ridiculous

And you use La-9 with quad 23mm as an example?
I mean, it shouldn’t 1-tap bombers anyway, but currently everything gets 1 tapped, aside from plywood aircraft that randomly avoid fusing HE.

1000th comment btw congratulations

1000 comments over wether bombers should DIE or not 😭

Doesn’t matter what example I use. Fighter guns should not, under any circumstances, split a B-29 in half.

Buddy don’t do that twin will get angry and get another chat ban

Quad 30mm absolutely can sever a tail off with some good hits. And we have fighters with 50mm automatic cannon.

why not? is it made of adamatium instead of aluminium?

See, there’s the problem currently lol
No need for good hits, just hitting the general tail area usually is enough on the live servers

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the larger bomber busting guns doing that, but 20-30mm shouldn’t just rip a bomber in half without even having to aim

Rarely, if ever, did heavier bombers get that damage. Real footage and German training show that they target engines primarily. If you shoot the engines from a good angle right now, you’ll do the job just fine.

Not fighter aircraft.

Aluminum is not a weak material, nor is the structure made out of it. It is a monocoque mixed-metal fuselage designed to spread damage strain evenly across the airframe. It does not rely on a metal frame to stay intact.

Im reminded of the Mythbusters testing whether a machine gun can cut a tree in half, as an anology for cutting a bombers tail off…

Yes in theory it can be done, but in practice, probably not.

Instead, what is more likely in the instances where it might have happened irl, is that some lucky/unlucky hits in just the right/wrong spot creating a weakness that then results in the tail being broken off, rather than the gun fire itself just cutting the tail off

To be fair, with how Gaijin does DMs, they really do go in the direction of the survivorship bias chart.

Honestly, from what i can see from the video, is that one of the problems is that as soon as the flaps gets destroyed (becomes black), they are still there and then works as a bullet sponge. Meaning that after the flaps have been shot off, it then works as a piece of protection for the rest of the wing, making the rest of the wing take nearly no damage. I think this is probably the main reason why the wings are so tanky as they are from the rear.

If it worked, where after the flaps were destroyed , then the wing spar would be exposed and then could begin to be damaged, it would be probably be better.

They used less HE and more incendiary capable ammunition. It’s why Germany started scraping out HE filler for more incendiary. Fires were better ways to take down aircraft as the go to reliable method, with fires making up the majority of Air kills.

HE has the problem of the explosive itself quenching any fire because it forces air away from the area. Essentially starving it.

Even with HEI rounds it’s highly dependent since you can cause leakage of the fuel tank and no fire even if it explodes directly inside the tank, this is because, again the resulting explosion can quench a fire.

Has anyone actually tested non B-17/B-29 bombers in matches or against real people, and if so how did it go? I’m mostly worried about bombers like the Me-264, G8N1, and the Ju-288 being massively buffed and making the game just worse to play, and I hope that isn’t the case.

Obviously bombers shouldn’t die to a couple 20mm rounds, but they also shouldn’t be the best air superiority fighters (cause some clips make it seem like they might be).

Dude, I think you shouldn’t have sent that message because there are already 1000+ messages on this damn topic, and don’t expect the replies to your message to be unbiased.
