I think Gunners need a buff, not a debuff. I can’t even remember the last time I was shot down by a bomber at all.
I think so too and I hope so as well.
You can’t even shoot the enemy fighters before they shoot you, and yet there are people who deny this despite it being clearly known.
Even against a B-52 that I was chasing for nearly 6 minutes, I didn’t take any damage and simply rolled out of the way each time.
That’s especially problematic because the B-52 has a radar-guided rear Vulcan.
Manual gunner control definitely needs some improvements
AI gunners just need to be a bit more intelligent, I don’t think they need an actual buff tho
Gaijin really should model those radars and other gun-laying systems
Yeah.
- Remove the artifical spread for manually/player controlled guns
- Extend the range of AI gunners to 500-700m in RB but give them the Naval AA code that adds spread for the AI gunners
- Enable AI gunners for guns not being actively controlled (i.e, if on the tail gunner and something is out of sight of the waist gunners, then they will fire at something independently
- Add first person aiming / gunner sight for a selected turret to help with countering paralax (in ASB, this could be the only view usable for gunners)
I don’t need their hit accuracy to be high, but allow them to engage enemy aircraft from a few kilometers away, with escalating accuracy based on fire time and how close the target is.
For Bombers using radar or ballistic computers for their gunners, allow that to be further, more accurate, and faster.
Yes, I have a chat ban.
Got it for calling people sons of Gaijin etc. and for insulting AF campers.
Anyway always appreciated when it turns out somebody is talking about me, chat ban was a dead giveway, lol.
This
The AI is way too basic currently
Also have them pre-aim instead of just reverting into their default (or most recent) resting position
Yeah, even if they cant fire at a target beyond say, 500m. They could at least start tracking a target 2km out
The issue with not being able to target an enemy 500 meters out is that I can easily hit 20mm from well over 1km in my F4U-4B while firing on a fighter-sized aircraft if they don’t move. For a bomber, that’s even farther and easier. Not to mention that jets like the 262 and such can close 500 meters in a good dive in less than a second.
The gunners should fire as a deterrent from 2km out, with escalating accuracy based on time of firing, target movement, and distance. They should only get 100% lethal within around 500 meters or so.
There needs to be mitigation, because the last thing we want is essentially what we have in naval, but in ARB, (or even SPAAGs defending convoys in ASB/NE). Where AI gunners are so good that air threats are just non-events. With these damage models and really good gunners, you could just fly into the middle of the enemy team and get a load of kills without any effort.
So its finding a range which isn’t OP, or a way to migitate AA fire at longer ranges. But Gaijin is absoutely hopeless at balancing AI gunners at the moment, so until they get their act sorted (i.e no more super death spheres in ASB/NE) I think quite a harsh range cap is needed. But 500-700m is still way better than the current 200m
and I do feel the emphasis should be on the player controlling the guns, and not ai in ARB tbh.
(Though multi-player bombers when?)
The important thing is to have manual control be as reliable as possible, the AI is just a bonus
If only, man… I love that concept and there are a couple of games that pull that off pretty well
Flying a bomber with your friends from your own squad, that would be awesome!
I don’t believe it will be an issue, as gunners in the middle of a large fight will be split up on different targets, which also means some players will have opportunities to engage the bomber without being fired at.
I’m not suggesting the gunners be aimbots, which is why I suggest specifically an escalating accuracy that increases as the gunners target an individual aircraft. If an enemy stays in their line of fire without breaking LOS, they should be punished for it. This also simulates a gunner making correcting shots after missing. This mechanic also insentivises boom and zoom tactics, which was the preferred tactic IRL, and honestly, the only safe one.
This is fine, but we’ve needed this code for half a decade in ASB for AI SPAAGs (and now also NE) , or in naval.
So if it gets added, sure… but in the meantime… I think it needs a range cap
The easiest way to get it in-game is to push for it now with the bombers. You can ask to repurpose the code later.
Yeah, perhaps…
We’ll have to see. Im more expecting gunner nerfs more than anything else though right now
Having such code would be great for airfield AA as well, could also enable a return of the heli-pad AA
