Changes to Bomber Survivability Feedback and Discussion

Sadly true.

Players complained about APHE, especially those used by Soviet tanks because of their one shot potential. Gaijin then proposed realistic physics for APHE shells and suddenly the community opposed it because it would mean they would need to aim their shots more carefully. So no realistic APHE thanks to the community.

Top tier battles are in dire need of long range maps because that is what modern tanks are designed for. Gaijin has included a few long range maps but now the players complain about being sniped unfairly so Gaijin goes back to creating knife fight rock maze maps.

The community will complain when the event or battleplass vehicle is a copy and paste. It’s a waste of time to grind a copy and paste. But when it’s a unique vehicle or variant, suddenly it’s a bad choice because something unique is locked out of the tech tree.

The community LOVES to complain about certain things rightfully so. But once the change is made, suddenly the community opposes it because it means they must also adapt to the changes.

So the community will criticise Gaijin for weak bombers, but the community doesn’t actually want stronger bombers because then they need to change how they approach them.

Even today G8N1 is absolutely roflstomping fightersfrom certain nations. They simply chase after my poor plane. Essentialy the only chance Germany has is MK103 snipes. US/Brits can hope for a lucky long range hit with their multiple high velocity long range weapons.
German and Italian planes are badly outranged by this thing. And all it takes is a single hit.
Fun times ahead.

I just tested this with the BV 238, and it makes no sense that an aircraft of that size can lose its entire tail from just one or two explosive bursts from a fighter.

I want to live in the same reality as yours

Exactly

G8N1 outranges German and Italian planes by a few hundred meters, single Type 99 Mk2 shell breaks Ta-152Hs wing in half.
G8N1 can force a tailchase at will, in such case it basically outranges everything but maybe 50mm cannon on Me-262, Soviet 37mm and MK103 firing HVAP, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
G8N1 has basically infinite ammo.
Currently it’s fragile, but it can hunt down German/Italian teams no problem.
After the buff, it will be the best air superiority prop fighter.

I think the bombers need defense crew buff to. Specially with more experienced ai crew. Need more distance to start shooting.

It seems that the problem is largely reduced to the infinite ammo of the bombers.

If it only had 250 rounds per gun (a single time), players couldn’t afford to engage in saturation fire or play snipers outside the fighters’ range. The mere thought of limited ammo would force them to be more conservative and drastically shorten the distance.

It must be added that deflection shooting from a turret is quite a bit more difficult than from a fighter, and hitting a small target engaged in making aggressive evasive maneuvers demands spending way more ammo!

I tried using P-61 and it’s surprisingly easy to hit fighters if you have some.speed. They can try set up a high speed pass, bit for it to be hogh speed they have to be quite a bit above while you have no option to just turn your rear towards them.
G8N1 usually sits above your head and hauls a55.

Yes, limited ammo could help, but still, Ta-152H can reallistically land SOMETHING at 800m. Maybe I could score some hits with Bredas on Re.2005 at that distance. But MK108? Nope. MG151/20 takes ages to get there and most users, me included, have very little experience with long range firing this weapon, as it’s generally a waste of ammo vs fighters.
G8N1 at that distance will absolutely insta-delete you.

I mean, I have quite a lot of games in 6.0-6.3 props, more than a thousand in Ta-152H alone. G8N1 was like the only thing I never engaged, unless absolutely no other option was available.

Agreed. Worth noting though that your last point can only really be said to apply to ARB and AAB. In sim the difference swings the other way. My advantage in effective-range mean barely any fighters make it anywhere near me in sim and with the incoming structural changes I doubt I’ll have to manoeuvre much at all in future.

Almost no fighter struggles to climb higher and faster than a bomber, especially dedicated interceptors (I wish Gaijin hadn’t put so many of them behind paywalls right now).

The issue is that many fighter players just rush into a linear pursuit from behind and below. They never want to spend time repositioning at a safe distance in preparation for a dive from above and front, which would give them the best odds. From above, if the G8N1 turns to bring its tail to bear on the attack, it will find itself in a steep dive, leaving it unable to pull any evasive maneuvers and at risk of ripping a wing.

That said, it is true that IRL bombers didn’t hang around over enemy territory just baiting fighters into attacks. And generally, fighters could take the initiative however they pleased regarding the direction of the attack - the bomber wasn’t going to break away from its flight route just to prevent an attack from the front. it just pushed forward and prayed to make it back home.

Except they do thanks to G8N1s excellent strategic bomber spawn and on top of that it has reasonable climb.

If somebody decides not to tailchase G8N, you know, what it can do? Turn and force a tailchase.
Or just move to attack.
Fighter can only reasonably dive away, and hence we get back to “bomber sits above and is going fast”.

G8N1 also has the rest of the team, so it can get into attack position while you, know, f.e. fight enemy fighters.

Match will end before you get into position to attack G8N1 from above at 6000+m.

Oh trust me, im well aware, ive laid all the cards on the table. At the end of the day this entire discussion is a useless fighter cope echo chamber, Gaijin has done more research on the matter than all of us combined while they were making this rework. And the only way they’re gonna change stuff is someone making a bug report with documentation that somehow trumps their own.

(edit, i was wrong, these babies scream louder than I thought)

Oh my god, we had this argument already, you literally can.

These fighter mains cant parse new information bro, their brains dont register any new information at all

Yes this has since been made clear to me, however smaller missiles like sidewinder and sparrow now have decent effects too.

Except they went the wrong way of fixing it by ALLEGEDLY making bombers paper again instead of fixing the missiles. Im updating my dev and will confirm but if these bombers are paper mache again dude im genuinely going to be pissed, this whole argument was a waste of time

From what I’ve seen they definitely aren’t paper mache, you still have to mag dump or snipe with 12.7’s and 20mm

we shall see-damn 5.6gb? gzsabi is frothing at the mouth

Ok, first dev version vs second dev version

Seems pretty similar in the hangar? Lets see a test flight

Edit: They swapped the b17s with b29s, harder to compare

Ohhhh, I think I see what they did. So before stuff like mk108 stealth belts were widly outperforming the mine shells, now they do the same damage in the hangar, the tails do seem to come off with some concentrated fire, but it looks like this percieved jump in bomber fragility is ACTUALLY ammunition getting fixed, and not necessarily the bomber getting weaker. I overreacted

And its damaging crew more, maybe fragments can pass through skin better, aka missiles do more damage which is why they’re not eating them anymore
