Theoreticals aren’t strawmen. There will always be a spot where something can bring a bomber down easily. But a salvo of 30mm to a wingtip isnt doing that

This isn’t a theoretical though, it’s just BS.
Just because one plane returned with no cockpit doesn’t mean that all planes should return with no cockpit. No one is asking that bombers behave like wet paper, we are asking that these things don’t become a flying IS-7.

nobody is defending that bombers fall apart like lego pieces if you look at them funny
but a lot of people are not a fan of bombers tanking like 100 30mm HE shells and being totally fine afterwards
- even right now a good gunshipper has no problem killing you with their gunners if they are using a bomber that isnt totally garbage

The only case that this applies that I’ve seen from this entire thread is when a weapon meant to one shot bombers completely fails at that task.
I don’t see anyone saying a B-17 should get destroyed by a single 30mm. But when a direct hit with a 75mm HE round fails to even set a fuel tank on fire (when the estimate was that 55mm was enough to at least send the bomber back) then something is very clearly wrong.
If there are people genuinely saying lower caliber guns should one shot bombers then they are just wrong.
