Change the BR of the Maus

Crazy how a discussion about the Maus turned into a discussion about what your profile picture says about you.

Well, an APDS round from the M41 to the front of a T-54 (Br8.0) turret should destroy it in reality. The fact that the game uses a miserable RNG-based damage model doesn’t help in creating a hypothetical historical matchmaking experience either.

I’ve always thought it would be interesting if they brought back a points-based game mode. In this mode, only a few players could field the heavy tank at the start of the match, and if they lost their chance, the other players who had accumulated enough points could then field them, always maintaining a limit of four tanks of that model.

In fact, I think this would somewhat solve the problem of the OLD, since, for example, someone wanting to use the M1A1 would first have to use, say, an M3 Bradley, meaning they couldn’t use the MTB right away and then be forced out of the match if they failed with it.

Weirder things have happened on these forums. Btw the maus is fine where it is rn. What we need is decompression.

as a shit player at the game these 2 screenshots should say something at least

keep in mind these stats are from when people were still actively hunting the Maus to kill their win rates and KDs

what? how the FUCK do you think either of these tanks are bad

skill issue, and yes I’m the average player

I naturally wonder how much of the Maus’s BR is from the tank itself being good or just all the rounds able to penetrate it having horridly low/inconsistent postpen damage that makes the tank feel like its indestructible?

For example it often can take 3-5 hits from 90mm HEATFS, 75-84mm APDS, and most APCR is so overkill neutered few people even try using it to pen one other than an occasional T32.

And really the same argument can be extended to the IS-3, IS-4M, T-10A, IS-6, IS-7, Jagdtiger, Tortoise, Ferdinand/Elefant, Black Prince, Object 268, Ho-Ri Production, and any other rolling pillbox-style superheavy.

If we cared about it, we would also need to take into consideration planes that can destroy them. Especially that there are some below 2.0 that can do that eaisly.

To be honest, the Maus really only has two counterparts in game with them being the Tortoise and the T95. All 3 of them have nice armor, but abysmal mobility. The problem with the Maus, is that it earned it’s br during a time when the highest penning shell it could face came from the British conqueror. The only shell Russia could use to defeat the Maus reliably was BR-741D which allowed for penning of the turret cheek within 100 meters. Back then, the Maus could roll around anywhere it wanted, but now you have to be a lot more situational with it or get flanked by heat slingers.

Exactly, look at his original comment, i was making a point

Cool, i spelled it wrong.

BR-471D can’t pen Maus turret cheeks tho

It most definitely can pen the cheeks within 100 meters like I said.

It just becomes very hard to do at 100meters itself. (95% of the time at this range the MG eats the damage even if you aim far right)

Huh. I always nonpen. Oh well as usual I’m a skill issue…

I mean it’s still hard to do, but back then Heavy tanks could basically do hand to hand combat with one another every game. You can sort of see this meta in Barons video of the Maus 11 years ago. : https://youtu.be/NTX4WxzxQ3Y

Heh. All I know is when I try the turret cheeks my IS-6 ends up getting destroyed by the Maus. My tactic for Maus is barrels(if u can take out only 1, go for the 75mm), .50 cal the tracks, shoot that spot under the turret filled with ammo. Sure it’s an entire mag of .50 and at least 25 seconds to pull off, but whatever. At least it’s reliable :)

From point blank it has a tiny chance to pen if the turret is perfectly flat on due to the slight variance in armour protection Gaijin uses to simulate variance in steel quality.
You are basically relying on rolling a nat 20 for pen with a gun with a 20 to 30 second reload though, not what I would call a good plan A.

Which is why I never go for the turret cheeks. Did u not read the entire message above about how I do fight the Maus?

I get that “technically” it’s possible but frankly between the 25 second reload and problems that arise if I fail to kill I’m not taking that shot. Like ever.

Yes, I had already typed most of the reply to a previous post though and just shifted to a more recent one to point out it’s not a “skill issue” just RNG, like how you always get shot and killed by the guy with the red gun breech, but when you shoot with an orange one you blow up your whole turret crew.

With Br-471D you can also pen the rear of the turret unlike the rest of the 122 ammo for the Is-2, 3, 4m. Killing the maus these days has never been easier though when we have tanks with heatfs shells as low as 5.7 with the French M36B2.

This is why the heavy vs heavy meta was the place that could happen often. Is-4’s would angle up or play hull down, Is3’s would protect the trap shot by moving about, the American T32 would play hull down to protect the weld line of the upper/lower plates, and the Maus player would just angle a bit and deflect even the conqueror. Battle’s were fought point blank a lot of the time, especially when it came to trying to get rid of the Maus, since you had to be close to it begin with.
