DESCRIPTION

The Challenger 3 is an extension of the Challenger 2 Life Extension Programme(LEP), aiming to sustain the tank out to 2030+. It aims to improve the tank in all key areas and ensure it is a capable tank with potential modifications for the future. Development of Challenger 3 is being done by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL).

The main armament is the Rheinmetall L55A1 120mm smoothbore gun, this gun is found on the modern Leopard 2A7V and Leopard 2A8, it can fire any current NATO round. The technology demonstrator has been seen firing the DM63A1 round, its primary KE round is in development, and will most likely be the DM83 Neo Round.

The sights are all new for Challenger 3, with Thales providing the Gunner and Commander’s sights with the DNGS T3 and Orion systems. G&H will provide the drivers periscope as a key component of rheinmetall’s trailblazer vision system. The gunner and commander’s sights are the same generation 3 thermals found on the Ajax IFV.

The suspension has been upgraded to the 3rd generation Hydrogas system from Horstmann, further increasing off-road performance. The engine has been upgraded to the Perkins CV12-9A V12 diesel engine, producing between 1200-1500hp at 2400rpm, propelling the tank to 60kph. To handle this additional load, the transmission is also being improved to the 1500hp spec. The HAAIP program is introducing these upgrades to Challenger 2 hulls in readiness for the Challenger 3 upgrade, more in this can be found here: Challenger 2(2022) - “The Last Hurrah”

The vehicles protection systems are being seriously improved, with trophy MV and Elbit ELAWS being fitted as the self defence systems. The physical armour is also being improved with newly developed Epsom Modular Armour and Farnham Embedded Armour to counter modern threats. Ammunition storage has also been changed from Challenger 2. Ammunition is being removed from the hull and will be stored in the back of the turret with blast door and blowout protection, on top of the LOVA ammunition’s inherent safety.

I thought MoD said 1200hp, did they change their minds?

+1 for the CR3 with all the features it currently lacks

So not the first to comment or vote on this forum but at least happy to be rested and able to read this forum

Sorry I had a long work day, but isn’t this tank in the game?

No. The piece of shit we have in-game is a “tech demonstrator” and does have anything that this CR3 prototype has, the CR3 TD we have doesn’t exist and constantly gets nerfed, almost as much as the Type 89 has gotten nerfed at this point

Cr3 td is nothing more then the ch2 Lep

Not even the LEP. It’s just a CLIP with different sights, armour, silhouette and more ammo

Clup was something different no, as it is the lep tho saying that both the TD and Black Night are the LEPs

The CR3 TD we have in game is basically what the CLIP would have been if you had taken that exact prototype and put it in service, all it has is the gun, the CLIP was to test the L/55 on the Challenger 2, the Challenger 3 (the one that enters service) is going to be a combination of all the Challenger 2 optional upgrades in 1 package

Hopefully this one wont be using the old old CR2 damage model like the TD is.

Also will be nice that some salty main of another nation cant get this ones 1500hp engine nerfed from what one guy in a pr interview said

Plus another APS is very welcome in a world of AGMs. Black Night saves me so often

+1

a mismash of several CR3 prototypes is what we have in game atm, this is what the British army is actually getting (for the most part)

Just like the GTD-1500, only in their minds.

don’t we already have this in game

So whats the difference between this pre-production and the normal challenger 3. Isn’t the pre-production the challenger 3 TD we already have in game???

I know once all challenger 3’s are ready they will be fitted with APS and smaller version of the dragon fire, im guessing thats what you mean by pre-production, before all these things are added???

To clarify, this suggestion refers to the prototypes 1-8 we have been seeing recently, it comes equipped with full sub systems, blow out panels, improved armour, including anything additional used for trials.
