Challenger 3 MBT - Technical Data and Discussion

It shouldn’t be.

My point is look how far it’s fallen thanks to Gaijin’s management

We only need to assemble the L55A1 of Challenger 3, the MTU883 engine of Challenger 2E, and the Iron Fist of Challenger BN together. We will get the best Challenger. Xd

Well, we got 2 of those things at least. Jury still out on the engine though.

i dont think it got the iron fist from the black night iirc i believe its the trophy aps that the merkavas are equipped with but im not 100% so surely someone will confirm

Corners of the turret cheeks look to be a slightly different shape along the bottom edge since the last prototypes

Yeah i noticed that too their is also cables on each side of the turret could be for possibly the LWS are APS Radar ??

Are these the same APS that the Black Night had?

Why is our breach still huge. Why cant we design another gun or barrel or whatever that leaves a small breach/mantlet.

I think we are swapping to Trophy

Im not totally convinced that is an IRL issue. Gaijin has a lot still to fix with the CR2/CR3 mantlets

Yeh but the trophy is worse? The Iron Fist uses an Explosive Projectile Interceptor which can stop Things even as far as Kinetic and ATGMs. Ive seen the Trophy uses explosively formed penetrator/self-forging fragment (like a shotgun) which certainly cannot stop Kinetic/APFSDS.

Because it is not an easy spot to aim irl. Leopard 2 advanced’s one are rare exception.

And Iron Fist is not combat proven. That’s maybe why.

Would need a complete redesign of the turret.
Thats what uk didnt want to.
Uk is essentialy now using same breach and gunnas leopards now.
But the turret restricts the mantler since they want to be able to upgrade their current challys as well if necesary if i remember right

Because in real life the mantlet isn’t a signficiant weak spot like it is in war thunder.

Breaches in WT are artificially nerfed in order to “balance” top tier and keep the skill requirement lower. For example, the Leopard 2’s mantlet is partially made of STRUCTURAL steel instead of rolled steel, making it signficantly weaker than it should be. The Leclerc, Challenger, Type 10, Abrams etc… mantlet’s are also weaker than they should be, often significantly.

The British already had a small mantlet design for the Challenger 1, however, it was clearly not a large detriment to move to a larger mantlet for the Challenger 2.

They don’t want top tier tanks to be too effective hull down, which is understandable, but not realistic.

From what we’ve heard CR2s rotor is solid titanium with the gun breech sitting right behind it. The side wedges of the mantle appear to be protected by Chobham. Damaged one from Ukraine shows it has a similar setup to the turret face after the cosmetic skin got blown off. Hollow in war thunder of course but if the Russians think it’s a weak spot power to them lol.

Yet another article today stating the Challenger 3 has a more powerful engine.

I know its not a primary source, but it seems most new articles mention it.

depends on where its coming from, if army recognition has an earlier article saying that it has an improved engine and this is based on that, then nothing has changed

lemme tell you a secret, most of the unofficial news articles build on each other. Because they dont have offical information or interviews they just copy paste each other like parrots.

Meaning that they just continously repeat the mistakes of each other as well
