It’s probably DM83, which is still in development (KE2020 Neo).
All i know is that its being called EKE “Enhanced Kenetic Energy” round. But its been a while since I heard anything new about it. So it might be the same shell.
Lmao I must’ve missed the patch notes where they removed the blowout panels from the challenger 3.
This tank is rapidly getting worse over time.
Would rather play the base CR2 at this point
They got rid of them a while ago… well it didn’t ever have them but the ammo just never exploded when it first came out, that was what changed iirc
DM83 it’s solely being developed by Germany and no one else rn, the apfsds You are talking about it’s another one, idk what is the name of it tho, yeah since EKE is not within KE2020NEO
I have some patents around but they are for the DM83 aka KE2020NEO and they still don’t know wich patent Will be used
Knowing the MoD. They’ll decide on a shell around 2040
Some of them are both interesting but mostly weird, what we know is that Ke2020NEO officially renamed DM83 has a 760 mm penetrator
Here they are, APFSDS-Tandem
Spoiler

so they are two different rounds
Is a Tandem APFSDS just a more evolved Anti-Era tip or is there a different reason behind it?
I think we can safely assume that “improved protection” means the armour is more effective at stopping threats.
We know its thicker on the turret (i checked) and hull.
We know the material is different as it uses EPSOM and FARNHAM armour instead of CHOBHAM and DORCHESTER armour types. We can assume these probably have a different array layout as they’re new designs.
Not sure about lighter, but the tank weighs a bit more than the CR2 so probably not, unless the weight is coming from somewhere else.
In short the armour is almost certainly “better” as in it provides more protection, so the tank would be better armoured ingame.
yeah DM83 its subjected to strict rules by germany and EKE its from the UK
its tandem APFSDS, a charge pushes the tip foward triggering ERA and provoking the ERA to just be gone completely and the rest of the penetrator has free way to penetrate
What a time to be alive
Imo the new composite is probably slightly lighter as i would expect a much greater increase in base weight if it wasnt for just how much extra armour were getting alongside the New Gun, Thermals/NVDs and other things that add a fair bit of heft like all the wiring for things like the APS systems, the LWS, ect.
its pretty weird tbh, altough idk if they are going for that proposal tho
“The first example of the Challenger 3 was at the main Rheinmetall Unterlüß facility in Germany where the 120mm smoothbore gun and its suite of ammunition has also been produced. While BAE Systems has been the prime contractor for the ammunition fired by the Challenger 2, it has not been involved in the 120mm EKE programme, according to a company spokesperson.”
Seems like EKE is pretty much a German-only development i.e UK pays Germany (Rheinmetall) to make a new KE projectile for the CR 3.
