Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

Interesting, I had no idea that the CR2E was only a single tank used for shows and demos.

sweet, that should defo be helpful for Chief/Chally 1 and probably useful for Chally 2.

A little doubt, why this armor is structural steel, shouldn’t it be RHA?

Yea, we got that reported

The first one is the 1" spaced plate, it has squared edges and is ostensibly for mounting the driver’s camera. Could be argued that as a mount, it would not be made of armour-grade steel.

The second is a 2-3" thick plate and is definitely armour-grade, you can see the thickness is much greater and there is no visible spacing between the plate and the hull. This is clearly a purpose-made piece of additional protection, though I’m not sure which CR2 variant it should be fitted to.

You got that mixed up. It is not Black Night(The BN also had that plate in its full size, just modified). This plate is an addon armor that works as an armor and holds ROMOR in place. It is a first gen plate, and it provides a total of 50mm of protection.

2F late, TES, 3TD. 87mm of protection.

Oops, yes it is clearly part of the ROMOR-A kit. I would still say the 25.4mm thickness is correct, though it could be RHA.

I would say RHA. It has to increase its ke protection compared to what we have now and was used as a UFP add on since Cr1 up to the Gen 2 plate (Excluding BN, that got Gen 1 plate back)

Why are you still sticking out >:(

It was supposed to be fixed but didn’t turn up in production. So it’s been reopened.

Well, the fix lost its way i guess :)

Can somebody confirm if their BN APS is not working correctly, mine seems to be firing 2 shots for one target, it also seems to fire at apfsds shells that still manage to hit the tank and do damage

Works fine in test drive

Thats normal, it cant stop top apfsds, but it weakens them

That’s what she said.

It is armoured steel, overall it offers 50mm of KE protection. The 2nd plate is about 50mm thick and definitely solid(whatever is inside wink wink), you can tell it’s heavier because it uses the heavy duty bolts.

A magic material, providing superior kinetic and chemical protection, called air (joke)

Thankfully not :)
