Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

You’ll have to point out how often tanks engage the enemy by driving backwards towards them…

Might be favoured by IS-2 drivers in WT…not real life.

Why, if the loader only has quick access to the charges in front of him in the turret?

The problem isn’t with the APFSDS, but with the charges, of which there are still four.

There is a charge storage at the front of the hull.

Also position of stuff is not taken into account in game, or stuff like T-54 would have a hard time.

The in-game term “ready rack” doesn’t align with how it’s used in real life.

In the game, it refers to shells that can be loaded as quickly as possible at any hull/turret orientation.

Obviously, the racks holding shells behind the turret can’t be used for loading if the tank has the turret deployed, so they aren’t considered a ready rack.

The problem remains that the loader only has convenient access to a few shells in the turret in front of him.

So… does that mean that all the tanks with rear turret ready racks like the Abrams and leopards need to get small ready racks?

and what happens to the TES/OES when those rounds are removed?

I don’t understand why you came to that conclusion.

The Abrams and Leopard have unitary ammunition and are stored in the turret so that the loader has easy, quick access to all of them.

Those stored in the hull are not a ready rack.

The Challenger, on the other hand, has non-unitary ammunition and easy access to many APFSDS rounds, but only to a small number of charges in front of the loader.

This is the problem.

I’m not the one making the decision, but I don’t think anything will change, except the maximum number of APFSDSs in the tank.

You still have a 4-round rack, which is the limitation for fast loading.

The Challenger 1’s ready rack is 3 shells, which is equal to the rack size in front of the loader.

Although if the APFSDS position were important, it would be larger.

Except the 4 rounds that are available for fast loading by your logic wont exist anymore.

there will be, there is a bunch of darts lying in the back of the tank turret.

Im confused now.

Are you saying the shells in the back of the turret accessible for use as a ready rack or not.

Because you have now stated both as true.

If the shells by the turret are for fast access, they are the ready rack. If they are removed the shells in the back of the turret are fast access.

All the darts in the tower are accessible, but there are only four charges in the turret in front of the loader.

I can draw it tonight when I get back from work, but it seems clear from the description.

I initially said that the problem isn’t that only four darts are on the turret walls, but that there are four charges.

All darts (apfsds) are fast access, but only 4 charges.

and if those four charges are removed to make room for more electronics?

but they haven’t been removed from any Challenger 2. Or is it a theoretical question?

Looking at the configuration

please identify for me the 4 charges that are for the ready rack, and which ones would be harder for the loadoer to access compared to the others

The ready rack is 4, because of the APSFDS shells located next to the turret. Those should be removed from the OES/TES. Meaning the only shells would be the ones from the back of the turret.

This is. Rest is not in turret, or far away from loader

Is this Gaijin official position?

These are my observations.

The game is too inconsistent to be sure that something isn’t done differently somewhere.

I gave an example from Challenger 1, where it’s clear that the ready rack is determined by the number of charges in the tower, not the number of darts.

So why are the other rounds out of reach?

But we know that is incorrect based on this report
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/m22cZZxaNPXJ

As stated in report official British documents show the charges behind the loader are considered part of ready rack in real life. They should be considered a part of the ready rack in game.
