Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

I mean considering the fact the C3 TD is still using the Copy and pasted Turret armor model from the C2, i don’t think they would even care if we could prove it.

Even the TD C3 had a different turret, with a different angle on the front.

The Physical and visual models are completely different.

The C3 also has composite in its Mantlet in the MODEL, yet it doesn’t actually exist.

When in the ever living FUCK are they gonna fix bag charges.

This comes from the additional “external” blocks on the turret cheeks, these extend forward, additionally, the mantlet is substantially deeper, we can reference this from the turret carcass lift hooks which are further back on CR3 than they are for CR2, these are in the same place on th shell itself

There is nothing to fix.

Its SO FUN TO DIE TO A TINY SHELL THAT DOES LITERALLY NOTHING TO YOUR TANK YET HITS A SINGLE CHARGE THAT ISN’T EVEN GONNA EXPLODE IN SUCH A MANNER/S

the bag charges should go boom

The glycol mix in the bins they are in are only to delay any detonation, like in the sherman, not prevent, and also to provide some limited spall protection

Unless we found out how to make IM propellant 40-60 years before anyone else, which we didn’t

No. They shoulnd’t.

Do i need to Bring up the fact that Challengers have burned FOR HOURS before cooking off?

Or the Castle Martin Incident?

EVEN IN UKRAINE.

Russia put MULTIPLE MISSILES into the side of a already disabled C2, and it still didn’t cook off till HOURS LATER.

The ONLY C2 that has had a Full on ammo detonation was hit DIRECTLY on the top of its turret with a 152 HE round from Artillery, which detonated the RDX in the HESH shells that it was over filled with.

The charge bins were never compromised during that incident, in your footage and APFSDS round passed through what looks to be at least two charges.

Even if we assume that the charges should not detonate, then they would still burn (and that fire would not be contained within the charge bin). The Castle Martin incident has shown that charges burning inside the tank doesn’t exactly end well for the crew; they certainly weren’t combat capable after the charges had finished burning.

Is it ever confirmed that was the case? There is footage from some sort of FPV munition hitting the drivers area of that CR2, and if you trace a straight line from the impact point through the tank, you pass straight through the forward charge bin. Also of note:

  1. The resulting explosion exactly matches what the MOD predicted would happen if a charge bin was struck
  2. The remains show there was a very powerful explosion in the front of the hull, so the charge rack likely did detonate. I suppose the question is just what caused it to detonate.

The damage to the plate is interesting, but I’m still unconvinced that it was a 152 mm artillery shell hitting the turret which destroyed the tank.

Reports at the time of the incident widely say it was a Lancet FPV munition, and there is FPV footage of something hitting the drivers port area (pointing directly towards where the hull charge bin would be), with the position of the tank in the FPV footage matching the position of the tank in the overhead footage showing the explosion.

So there’s two possibilities:

  1. The tank was hit in the drivers port area by a FPV munition with HEAT warhead, which then detonated the forward charge bin.
  2. The tank was hit in the drivers port area by a FPV munition, which did not detonate the forward charge bin despite pointing right at it. A short time later the tank was unlucky enough to suffer a direct hit from a 152 mm artillery shell, which detonated the HESH shells, which in turn detonated the charge racks.

On the balance of probabilities I would say option 1 seems more likely.

Also it’s hard to tell from the overhead footage, but personally I’d say whatever hit it looks more consistent with an FPV munition than an artillery shell. Plus the trajectory it comes in at appears to match the FPV footage.

You don’t know what you’re talking about

You’re saying to flame, the smartest out of all of us, that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about?
I think you yourself need to take a long look at yourself in the mirror and ask “Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about”

Psst. Replied to the wrong person, though they do have matching profile pics :D

You see, this is the complete and utter issue with people on this forum having the same 6-7 pfp’s. Looking at you with Teaz and HK Reporter and … Idk I guess Flame and Jaden have their Lightning along with the Otter.

I just look at the pictures. I have no idea how to read. (Or write evidently)
