Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 2)

Thats where i got the speed increase from, guess they just improved the suspension and other such things as the chally 3 is meant to be slightly heavier is it not? Although it does look substantially more protected (especially in the roof department so maybe we can finally convince gaijin the armour doesnt magically stop and leaves a massive gap for apfsds rounds to cleave through the entire turret. I dont need the same weakspot as my churchills on my challengers, I hate facing people who know to shoot their as 8 out of 10 times they could have just went right through my hull as the churchill mk 3 is basically a slow medium tank at that br.

if marketing material is to be believed the combat weight is ~1t higher, I’m not an engine nerd so I couldn’t tell you how much of an impact the stated HAAIP engine upgrades will have on their own. But yea, the CR3 prototypes seem to have much less of a forehead but I’d be surprised if (if/when added) gaijin don’t give it a 250mm KE mantlet still

Added? They will just do what they always do and “assume” that the armour hasnt been updated since chobum and therefore it would provide the same protection as the chally 2 all while having its additional farnum on top, as its british “era/composite” of course itll provide 30mm of ke protection…

Don’t forget the armour comes from the Merkava foundry, all the weight without any actual benefit.

tbf we know that this is because of gaijin’s interpretation of the STANAG levels, an ASPRO-HMT block can defeat the dardo/DW dart at 0-30 degrees impact angle, while gaijin inteprets it as 30 degrees from the nose of the vehicle, including all ASPRO-HMT blocks and backing plates/additional armour

The TES armour giving only 500ce and 30ke protection when its actually closer to 100mm ke and 1000mm ce, all while the ce value being the minimum as its layer upon layer of era and composite. And somehow it still cant stop tandem warheads acording to gaijin…

Heh, that is particularly egregious. I don’t think about it as it makes me so mad.

It’s the most incredibly braindead interpretation of the specs it boggles the mind.

they have a diagram of how a (naked?) LAV had its STANAG rating calculated and decided that applies to everything i think?

Yep.

It’s stupid and quite clearly wrong but getting them to accept that is like talking to a brick wall.

someone showed pictures of them testing the stanag protection levels of a plate and it showed that gaijin was wrong and they didnt acept it, instead showing a document on the lav or something. Someone then scrolled down and on the document and found evidence showing gaijin interpreted the stanag protection levels wrong and… well they haven’t replied to that one yet. I wonder why?

these are the stats of the TES ERA i think, slightly better than X-ray says from the looks of it

Give them time, intern just fixed a new shelf named “uk bug reports” so it will take some time before it break down again and someone has to check it.
And you are most likely talking about my report.

its been so long since ive even checked out the forums (around when they introduced the challenger “fixes”) so sorry if i couldn’t remember the exact points. But i cant tell if your being sarcastic about the shelf thing or not? should we have a little hope or none at all…

I mean it. After a great amount of reports was made, a rework happend. Now that we are after it, the timer is reset, and we wait again.
Do not expect anything.

As for how to call it, it can be sorted out in this way: in 2019 and before, it is Challenger 2LEP (Life Extension Programme)The advanced technology demonstration car of the RhineMetal Scheme

(the BAE scheme in the project is the Black Night that already exists in the game). After the merger of the RhineMetal-BAE Land System (RBSL) was officially approved on June 13, 2019

, it belongs to the RhineMetal-BAE Land System(RBSL), so DSEI 2019 is called Challenger 2ATD.

Until 2020, the Challenger 2 LEP project will complete the entire evaluation stage and start the demonstration stage at the end of the year. The new vehicle provided by RBSL has been identified as the final solution and named “Challenger 3” tank, so later in DSEI 2021 and DVD 2022, the RhineMetal Solution Advanced Technology Demonstration Vehicle was called the “Challenger 3” Advanced Technology Demonstration Vehicle (ATD).
