Challenger 2 MBT - Technical data and Discussion (Part 1)

Possibly yeah, but too low a weight and we have a massive discrepency for TES vs base CR2.
Aluminium would be too lightweight

Don’t forget about the two spaced 40mm plates at the bottom part of the side armour
Red circle is actually relevant this time.

aluminium alloys would have reasonable strength and still be light

Easy way to figure it would be separate each side into 5x1.1t strips. If I were to guess each plate is probably around 2.8t

Aye, which would contribute to the overall 2.25t quota you have to fill to meet the TES weight.

If it is aluminium, our TES is overweight.
If its steel, then our TES weight makes sense.

Aluminium alloy would be a good pick material wise, but we’ve got ALOT of weight to account for

Do you think you could write up a break down for the full package steel vs aluminium?

Yeah gimme a bit :9

use an alloy, its not pure aluminium

Please include any equations you use.

Do I get my Honorary Gaijin employee card now or later down the line? Lmao

No worries, i’ll put it together and make it clear as I can

If you segment the side into 5x1.1t strips you can clearly see that you shave off atleast 2.2t a side. Dimenions would be somewhere in the realm of say 7.4x1.2m

7.4mx1.2mx40mm at 7840kgm is about 2.8t per plate

Yeah but whats cheaper

I know i already did this once, but here is your reward

The sad thing is we are doing it for absolute free and we get a cold shoulder. (expect those who pay for books etc. then they are paying for doing someone else job)

Would love the street fighter 2

MoD will always pick this option.

1995 steel is a little more than 4x cheaper than pure aluminium.
2005 steel is a little more than 3x cheaper than aluminium.

It literally can’t be aluminium each plate weighs less than 1 tonne with aluminium 7075 alloy

did a rough model in blender and i got roughly 3.1t a side from that

So yeah I weren’t far off then.

It’s literally impossible for it to be aluminium I used the highest density aluminium alloy I could find being 7075 and each plate came out to roughly 980kg or something. Which would leave 10t for allocation elsewhere and I don’t believe bar armour and NERA/ERA and belly armour can account for that
