Any changes to ERA?
Also what’s the composite protection??
Edit - 25MM RHA for the ammo boxes? That’s a pretty healthy change!
@Smin1080p @Gunjob any way we can press this issue to the devs? Its such a small fix but would make the vehicle playable and worth the grind rather than just being Challenger 2F but slower.
There’s no basis for the numbers on the ERA, and the addon armor is what makes the whole tank worth grinding. Right now its got the same protection for ERA as the way thinner 2F ERA.
We could also get some changes to the 2F and 2 Dorchester 2E composite blocks (2F uses VARMA series 5 or 6, while it provides VARMA series 1 protection that is found on the Cr1 Mk3. I do not know about Cr2 Dorchester 2E level. (no, i do not have any sources, maybe someone have them, but i doubt that series 5/6 from around 2008 provide the same level of protection as series 1 from around 1990)).
I’m not all that familiar with 2Fs protection as a lot of my research was based on TES.
Even then, I can safely say 2F only having 400CE and 30KE is a mistake by the developers with no evidence to support it.
The ERA can’t hold its own against an insane amount of chemical attacks, despite being a modern ERA.
TES should be an impenetrable mobile fortress with its addon package. KE is still a significant threat, but CE is essentially useless against Challenger 2, let alone TES.
How the ERA is modelled is incorrect also it’s not one big block that’s just a container it’s a similar layout to what you see on the sep. but I find it funny they just copied values from 1970s romor ERA onto it lmao
2F should provide a little worse or the same level of ke protection as a TES era (fixed)+composite screen behind it, when it comes to ce i have no idea, but i can assume 600mm at least
I know for a fact that challenger 1 Mk3 add-on armour kit which is VAMAR Series 1 is designed to stop 30mm apds , rpgs , HEATFS and Atgms of the time that don’t have Tandam warheads.
Challenger 2 with Dorchester level 2E would basically have the same sort of protection as challenger 1 Mk3 add-on armour. It’s on from Dorchester level 2F and on wards does it’s protection values increase. So I can assume at absolutely minimum Dorchester level 2F could stop 30mm apdsfs rounds along with more powerful Atgms and evey other sort of chemical ammunition but again except from tandem warhead ammunition.
But once we get to TES add-on armour kit it was designed from the ground up to protect the tank against pretty much every sort of chemical ammunition out there including Tandam warhead ammunition which it was designed for. and it should also be capable of protecting the vehicle against 30mm apfsds if not 40mm apdsfs rounds !!
We get a 15mm (i will round it up from 16, as the 1mm is probably air or analysts error) of protection from it
guess what
That gives me an idea that dorchester nera has a 0.1 multiplier of protection. Funny enough that might be a starting point of many problems
There’s no way that 2Fs ERA is equivillent to TES + Composite screen. The 2F doesnt have a composite screen from what I remember so I can only imagine it’d be STANAG 5 ERA (84mm of KE minimum) and somethong like 600-700CE
I assume that because 2F is a composite block. TES got era to ignore ce and they slapped composite block at the back it to give the ke protection. I assume that was made for the sake of not losing ke protection comparing to the previous version
If I had to guess:
2F - 60MM KE, 600-700MM CE
TES - 84MM KE, 1800 CE
Nah, I’d say 2F is just solely CE protection, TES is designed as a whole armor array
we call it nera for shot but it is
If I remember right, the 2F ERA on the side is just passive ERA, though again - 2F isn’t my field of research. TES was my focus so I could be well off.
I just don’t see 2F coming anywhere close to TES in CE or KE
NERA is non explosive reactive armor, is like era so 2 plates but in between is something else, that is not an explosive
The part that i focus the most is composite armor. It is just like a
( i also love the 320mm that is provided nowhere)
So the compositon of the thing will be | composite | nera filler | composite | or something in those lines. I expect it to have at least some kintetic protection.
Even that would be better than current 15mm
