Other than bomb tossing nukes, is there even a single effective way to use CAS in the event?
I’m not one to play CAS at all, and trying to do it in this event is so abysmal it feels pointless with the AA in its current BS state. Im at the point of just hating the event in general with the changes that have been done, along with their refusal to fix the AA problem
You have to fire the AGM 88s close enough so the rocket doesn’t shut down. When it starts gliding it looses so much speed and so can be intercepted easily.
The guided bombs are dropped when no osas left. They can kill strellas and gepards
Choice 1 AGM130/ KH59M SPAA won’t intercept these 2
Choice 2 Launch all 6 Maverick then kamikaze rush with cannons. Not effective to multiple OSAs or buffed shilka. The only goal is to let either the vulcan or the mav to hit.
Choice 3 Zunis. Spam them to trigger OSA proxy and kill.
Rolands won’t do anything so i dont have alternate ways. They allow simply strafing by mig23s lol
Works as long as there’s no shilkas. Or they would intercept you and your munition in 0.2 secs.
OSA shoots beyond trees so even driving on the ground won’t help. There have to be solid ground in between.
Roland hits trees so don’t even have to care xD
I’ve been killed by rolands shooting through trees while flying below 50m. One killed me like that when i was less than 1km from it while trying to gun it
It pretty much is only nuke tossing or firing AGM-88s. Might try other tactics and weapon types if we had access to decent aircraft, but you dont if you dont play US or USSR… Kinda leaves you screwed.
Though if we did have a broadrange of Strike aircraft, with ARM available to all, the exact loadout I would use would be a Tornado GR1/GR4 with as many ALARMs as I could fit with whatever other weapons I wanted/needed, maybe just running the full 9. It would have been very effective.
If/when we get Brimstones and if/when this event returns again in the future and if we can run any aircraft… then a Tornado GR4 with 4x ALARM and 12x Brimstones is gunna be a lot of fun
There are *two things that drastically chance your effectiveness with cas in the event.
1: Using the right munitions, anything fire and forget is preferred. Anything extremely close range is a death sentence if you don’t know when it is right.
2: Utilizing terrain cover as much as possible. Rolands, Gepards, Osas, and Shilkas turn off their radar when they don’t see any potential targets. While they can track you without their radars on, they won’t begin firing until the radar is deployed. So making sure you keep that window of opportunity is essential, being seen at all, even while using terrain masking, will ruin this.
*However, this also means that ARMs cannot lock onto these spaa until their radar is deployed too, so keep that in mind.
So here’s the strategies you could use:
Pop up attacks. Keeping behind terrain and waiting until you are close enough to fire something like a maverick, then pulling behind cover as fast as possible. (Best to fire at least 2 missiles as the spaa can and will shoot down your missiles if they don’t attack you first.)
Self bait. (*With ARMs) Pop up at the edge of their engagement range, wait for the spaa to fire at you. Fire 1-2 ARMs at the spaa, and get to cover. (*1 Missile generally works against rolands, but against OSAs you might want to fire 2 because they can fire and switch targets much faster.) This works because you use the spaa’s tendency to track through terrain against them, as the spaa can only fire at one target at a time and missiles do not go through mountains.
Iron dome. Very simply, shoot the enemy missile down before they shoot you down. Better to do as soon as possible to prevent minimum distance proxy failure. (*R73 works wonders for this in the SU25T)
What NOT to do:
Only flying as low as possible. Spaa can and will track you through terrain, flares, and chaff. So it’s best to have hard cover, not just “multipath.”
Firing off munitions at long range. If you do this expect every single one of your missiles to get shot down. If the enemy spaa can’t shoot you, they will shoot your munitions, and range gives them ample time to shoot down every single one.
Only focusing on self propelled AA. While it is nice to not have to worry about a roland for 10 minutes, the rolands are not the main threat (OSA is a different story). Taking out the Hawk and BUK launchers are how you outrange the Rolands and OSAs, because they are the only things that are preventing you from getting a much larger altitude advantage.
Treating this gamemode like a more complex air rb match. This gamemode is litterally meant to be a play on nuclear option’s gamemode, and as such it plays entirely differently to the game everyone here is used to playing (And that is probably for the better). So keeping the air rb brain where you just want to get as many kills as possible is why people fail so often. You can’t just mindlessly go after kills, you HAVE to actively think about how you play to do good. (At least in the lower bracket where you can’t just bring out an F15 and get 30 air kills)
