Description: The Caproni Vizzola F4 was an Italian fighter of the Second World War. In 1938, the Italian engineer Fabrizio Fabrizi started to project a new fighter for the Regia Aeronautica. The plane was planned to be made with mixed wood and metal parts and a single Isotta Fraschini Asso L.121 engine. Although the project was promising, it remained on paper for various years as the Regia Aeronautica was mainly interested in aircraft with radial engines at that time. Meanwhile, another aircraft based on this project was made, the Vizzola F5. This aircraft, compared to the initial project, had a radial engine, following the requirements of the Regia Aeronautica. But the initial project wasn’t abandoned, and in 1939, the company was able to buy a German-made DB-601 engine and build a prototype with this engine based on the initial design. It made its first flight in 1940 from the airport of Vizzola Ticino. Some months later, during speed trials, the aircraft encountered a problem related to the glass canopy that injured the pilot and forced him to make a crash landing. Luckily, the aircraft wasn’t too damaged, and it was restored quickly. It was later sent to the Experimental Center of Guidonia, where it was trialed by Regia Aeronautica’s pilots. When it was compared to the F5, it was considered marginally superior, and the Regia Aeronautica preferred not to place any orders. The only prototype realized was later abandoned, and its fate is unknown.
Why it should be in game: It could be a nice new low tier Italian fighter for the main tree
