Caproni C.H. 1.

History.

In 1934 the Caproni Air Force, in competition with Fiat, decided to build an aircraft capable of competing with its competing counterpart, the Fiat CR32. After almost a year of work carried out by the engineer Chiodi Antonio, an aircraft called Caproni C.H.1 came out, and was classified with the surname of the designer (CH) and with the classic company name (Ca). After completing its first flight in May 1935, the aircraft was sent to the Guidonia test field under the Regia Aeronautica banner, but shortly after a few flights, the aircraft suffered an accident due to an oversight by the pilot and the aircraft was seriously injured. It was damaged so much so that the designer himself gave up the idea of continuing the project despite it being promising.

Armament and propulsion.

The C.H.1 was not heavily armed, in fact it mounted two 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns synchronized with the propeller. However, the little armament was compensated by the good performance of the vehicle.
The vehicle was equipped with a Piaggio Stella P.IX RC.40 engine, the same as the SM.81 and SM.79, delivering 559 HP which allowed it to reach a speed of 337 km/h, much higher than that of the competitor Fiat CR32. The climb speed of the vehicle that came out was equal to 7.26 minutes to reach an altitude of 4,000 meters. (There are some uncertainties regarding this section but I have done my best)
