I tried using various weapons in the test drive, but no matter how much you shoot at the wings of the bombers that appear, the aircraft never loses stability; it keeps flying without becoming unbalanced.
This change reminds me more and more of the Ground Forces crew mechanics: a bomber’s survivability depends on which engines are still running. If it has two engines and you destroy both, it’s done for; if it has four and you destroy two, it stays airborne. If you expend all your ammunition without knocking out an engine, you haven’t really achieved anything.
Yeah, essentialy it’s pilot or engine with some cases of tail failure. Basically no amount of 30mm HE can break a wing, damn, but that’s due to 30mm being only slightly stronger than 20mm.
I absolutely hate the way it all works.
Its not only that, iirc .50s have still a 30x higher incendiary modifier than 30mm Incendiary-/Mineshells and also a HE-Modifier (albeit a small one) on the AP-I or I rounds. So basically they have range, ammocount, damage and volume of fire advantage.
It’s like… people care for the bigger issue at hand, especially since Gaijin is most likely going to follow up with some further ridiculously bad changes.
Edit: Also, funnily enough, this all seems to stem from real shtter making low caliber HE absolutely OP. But even if they fix damage models, we will still be left with real shtter that 100% ignores all intricacies of shell design and still can’t properly model any shell type, because it fails completely with HE (where is the kinetic energy and fragment cone and differences in blast and fragmentation ability affected by shell design, weight, speed etc.), incendiary, and the only thing that behaves kinda OK is AP, because it is not affected.
The funny thing is how the devs, in an attempt to partially fix a problem they created themselves, have actually caused an even bigger one.
Those devs are incredible; instead of using logic and working to make a better game, they focus on releasing patches that make the game even worse and create imbalances. Of course, there are people who are happy about it—after all, it means easy kills and points for them while this disastrous update to bomber damage models remains in effect.
Oh, I edited my comment and I see you wrote the same thing - they created the problem, while fixing nothing, then they created a “fix” that also fixes nothing, just creates more problems.
But hey, this is a reality where plywood bug will eventually reach “legal age”, so it will be a little less awkward when we get brutally … in … … by it (forum turns every set of dots into 3 dots, but you guys can figure it out, just remember, I would never break forum rules!).
this is because every bomber’s skin has been make extremely thick and now blocks cannon shells from even penetrating it
and for a long time that issue was that cannons were ass
the only HE shells that actually do something to them are 30mm+ since they have the weight and explosive mass to go through the 7-10mm steel skin (and then do very little)
the super evil .50cal HEF shells are just pretty fireworks and even against fighters require consistent hits or getting very lucky
