Cannons doing too much damge

Guess what? I put the data for the M20 into the formula…

About the graphic. I corrected it for you:
eadf8d4d2068b940b2f4eabfcad1568a26beaabd

It shows a 10.3% chance for 1600fps, corresponding to 1000m.

Why is it higher than what I calculated? Idk, I just used the formula, I didn’t draw the graph.
Maybe they made an error, used wrong or different data or simply didn’t draw it correctly.

What matters is that the graph is supposed to represent the formula but it’s just a visualization.

Here’s your .50cal M20 API-T data. You can put it into the formula and you’ll see that 1600fps results in 7%.
1-2.3*e^(-1.1 * 1.6 * 0.624^0.5 * 0.18^0.25) = 0.07

Which is the best belt. 3/4 shells are HE, and the 4th is an APHE shell with good damage spread, best used in tail chase scenarios.

They do the same damage. The game file for the Type 99-2 cannon hilariously show no difference. Which is another can of worms that I won’t get into right now.

HEF shell on the left and HEF-T on the right, if it isn’t obvious.

So any differences you feel are placebo.

AIs in customs are not real players and are much more fragile. You can see in a real match that firing a belt with 75% HE, even with the fantastic state of cannons right now, you can still watch a fireworks display on the enemy aircraft sometimes - something I’ve been repeatedly told is impossible now.

The shell data files don’t determine the damage of a shell.

What happends with that data determines the damage.

Damage isn’t static. A shell doesn’t have „deals X damage“ in its files.

It’s the damage algorithm that takes the shell data and turns it into damage and quite obviously it does a pretty bad job when a plane’s structural component takes less damage from a shell with a higher explosive amount.

The difference you like to deny is cope

More cope.
We’re playing the same game here.

Don’t you think I wouldn’t notice that I‘m killing planes left and right with Type 99 tracer belts?

Literally spraying at people trying to energy trap me when they are 600-800m away and then blowing their wing off with a single hit.

Keep on dreaming.

APHE has no point when it simply fuzes on impact with a plane yet deals an extraordinary lower amount of damage than explosive shells.

It’s right there.

In the other shells’ code blocks you can even see the older HitPower system in use.

Are we? Because in my game (and the game on YT as well) cannons don’t “blow wings off with a single hit 100% of the time”, something you guys have claimed many times. It’s still very possible and common to hit an opponent a few times and nothing visible happening.

In a custom battle with a friend just now, I hit his wing with this miraculous 20mm HEF-T. Guess what didn’t happen?

APHE will penetrate armor and kill the pilot, even if you shoot it lengthwise. It does not fuse instantly. HEF-T will only damage their rudder and nothing else.

You can even shoot HEF-T right at the pilot and he survives half the time.

Isn’t this what you guys wanted? AP being relevant? What’s the problem?

This is the intended behavior by both players and devs.

It may not be 1 round 100% of the time but it’s damn close, especially with what my videos show especially with the Shvaks against other players (and you can literally hear me tapping the trigger). The Hispano is just as bad and I’m getting footage as we speak of the Type 99 which is equally as stupid. I’ve had my wings insta-snapped by them and just last night I was flying the A6M2 and came under attack by a Buffalo that dived on me. He went into a climb and I of course blew his tail section clean off with a tiny burst as he was climbing away. It’s daft.

We could’ve had a fun duel, he could’ve called a mate to help him so it could’ve been a fun 2vs1, I don’t care if I get shot down if I’m having fun. But nope, the tail fell off and that was the end of that. I think Call of Duty has a slower time to kill than War Thunder today.

Short burst from Berezin into Do-335 (8 ton beast of a plane) from a few hundred meters away and wing breaks off.
Hilarious.
Essentialy, in Yak-9K with 1 12.7mm MG with wjat, 200 bullets I feel more than adequately armed to kill 4+ enemy planes while missing vast majority ofnmy shots.

Hilarious.

This goes both ways though. If his guns cannot do any kind of adequate damage to your plane then even if he hits the first pass, then you just rotate behind him and easily down his significantly inferior plane. Chances are the guy that you killed in the Buffalo doesn’t even have keys bound to call for cover considering how low tiered that is.

Off memory there were some great players on the other team. I can’t quote this guy’s kdr as I can’t fully remember. I’ve saved the footage, I can’t remember if I click to turn the HUD on as I fly without it usually but we’ll find out.

That situation also isn’t entirely how it plays out. Considering BnZ is usually against targets at a considerably lower energy state that yourself you should have a much greater chance of killing them than being shot zooming away unless you engaged with too low of an energy state to begin with. The problem is if I get lucky and the attacker misses I can just spray rounds all over the place and if 1-2 hit him he’s dead.

The Buffalo is even more lightly armed than the A6M2 and is worse in basically every way except for marginal advantage in top speed if comparing even the best variant.

This problem doesn’t go away if gun damage is changed.

It just means that when if he is “good”…and apparently he wasn’t because he missed anyways…he hits you and it does effectively no damage and then he has to run away anyways. Or he has to attempt making multiple passes while you call for cover and while your energy equalizes.

And yet it appears that none of them were even able to lay a scratch on you? It’s kind of amazing how consistently you are able to basically not get killed in the sim games that you play. I am sure it definitely isn’t lobby shopping or airfield camping related though.

The only time he’s doing no damage is when the attacker misses.

The energy isn’t equalizing unless the BnZ attacker monumentally messes up and dumps all of his excess energy. The aircraft that is attacked if it isn’t shot down will be wounded and likely killed in the second pass.

You mean when I played the other night… when it was nearly 12am… and I played one game in mixed battles and one catching the end of an air SB match to get footage demonstrating Type 99 shenanigans before falling asleep?

“No one lays a scratch on you”, have you not seen my stats… are they the stats of someone who is trying to pad their ego?

This is as laughable as when you tried claiming I only flew OP aircraft earlier, despite the fact that the Spitfire was only the F Mk IX (not LF) that I fly in 5.0-6.3 matches and the C.202 which I also uptier intentionally for fun. I even made a thread ages ago saying that flying the C.202 in EC4 matches was great fun and more should try it. Heck in the footage I shared my Macchi is shooting down a P-47… I’ve even got footage of me in a C.200 shooting down an LF IX. Of all the people to accuse of this you picked quite possibly the worst one. You just made an almighty fool of yourself.

Is it just me or does this individual seem as though they’ve blatantly lost the argument and now they’re trying as hard as they can to throw sh*t and hope some of it sticks? The hate boner for SB is hilarious as well.

where did you pull this from? Simulator has no “lobby shop” because there are barely 2 lobbies filled up if lucky bro.

Which apparently he missed considering you did not die.

Any smart player will use a shallow dive and increasing the horizontal distance to attempt to equalize energy. I did this yesterday in G.56 against a Corsair who was a 10:1 KD player. Once I got behind him he ran to sit over the top of the airfield AA.

Most games you play in sim you don’t even die from the looks of things. So what are you doing? Just sitting at 5km?

I have footage of F-4F shooting Rafale in gun fight. Does this mean I play F4F at top tier?

Only time I have seen you in a game is in Sea Fury. And you would just run to the airfield when someone got behind you. Which is pretty common in Sim.

And if you check those lobbies you will see that it is usually one team just curb stomping the other where one side has most of the experienced players and the other is people without thumbs.

It’s a Mickey mouse game mode. Just pick the best plane for the BR and play it into people that don’t have the ability to fight back. If someone with thumbs shows up into your lobby on the enemy team…just leave them game and go to the other lobby. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

Anyways back on topic.

It’s interesting that the praise for IL-2 Korea is that .50 cals do a lot of damage and have a fast time to kill against fighter planes.

And this apparent phenomenon that you see, because I never met it, granted I only play sim once in a blue moon, justifies the almost complete nullification of differences in explosive fillers, case thickness and differences in damage that each cannon should have?

Ok dude but this is not on topic, 50cal are mostly alr, maybe a little too much fire chance but that’s it.

This is about cannons, stop trying to take car down the cliff and keep on the road.

Machine guns have always been part of the overall damage conversation. Hence if you check very early in the thread you’ll see the OP complaining about the damage that German 13mm machine gun does in the protection analysis. Or you can go up and see dannyboy complaining about Italian machine guns. Or you can see the previous 2-4 days of conversation regarding significantly nerfing incendiary chances M2 .50 cal.

If we want to just argue that only 20mm damage should be “realistic” in a vacuum then I am all for it. Nerf MG.151 into oblivion and keep .50 cals exactly the same; it will be funny for guys like me who know how to use American planes and actually like them. I would love for my P-47 to be basically invulnerable to everything except pilot snipes. You and the other guys on the receiving end of it might not like it though…but hey…anything to realism am I right?

Yeah and the one 50cal you try to drag here is the one 50cal that only fires AP and I

structural damage will be replaced for modular damage, only a matter of time until your traction of control surfaces give out or simply your elevators/ailerons/rudders falling out.

And we can model ammo detonations, just so happens on american props where they love wing mounted weapons and have some nice spread out belts.

Losing instant wing/tail amputations doesn’t mean aircraft will take +1-2 minutes to shoot down.

Nice exaggeration pal, won’t word it further since I want you read it well and realize on your own.

And API-T. Which is the best of both worlds. Just the other day I was messing around with a friend in custom battles, I was hit once by american .50s and instantly set on fire.

Plus, the overall damage tiering requires that cannons, individually, be much better than .50s as in real life.

So like the MG151/15, which is extremely reliable in taking a fighter out in just a few hits?

What is the difference between the current situation and the one described above?

I mean, you can follow on Kiwi’s talks about how the inertia of the bullet itself affects the fire chance, since currently you could drop an API-T 50 cal 1 meter above a fuel tank and the dice roll would still make it catch fire.

Which we can also add that the fragments deal too much damage to spars? Since the rare instances fragmentation manifest itself as main method of damage show that those shards of metal are apparently as powerful as a fully streamlined light AT gun? (the M2 50 cal in-case you don’t understand.

AP rounds will see more reason to exist other than just the CAS player strafing a vehicle with less than 20mm of roof armor

Armor will see more play in battle, since now it is irrelevant due to AP being irrelevant.
Once AP is relevant so is armor.

It even comes as a small bomber buff, even without jacked up health, modules tend to be spread apart from each other.

And of course, 30mil cannons won’t simply be either reduced to “does it have better ballistics?”

23mil would be what it is supposed to be, a complete upgrade from russian 20mils.
