Well, I think that decompression is something that most people agree on, but as I mentioned in my last comment, simply adding 0.0-0.7 or expanding the trees by a few BR levels and shifting everything up are easy-to-implement solutions that don’t require this full tree decompression.

I don’t, however, agree on artificially buffing these tanks in the meantime though. While they are a pain to play, they also research modifications incredibly fast, so it doesn’t take long before a player can move on to something better.

You’re not getting what i’m saying.
I am saying that because they never did the BR decompression, which isn’t related to our topic, they will never add 0.0 - 0.7. For some reason they hate touching ground BR even though it’s clearly the best solution to both problems.

That’s irrelevant; WW1 tech is locked behind the now over WW1 event, so if a new player comes in, he will not have access to it. The only people playing WW1 tech are high level players that want to play it.
That means that the WW1 community can’t play tanks that were exclusively added for them because they are too damn slow

Katyusha ? Well it is clearly competitive. It’s fast so it can cap points and it also has good armament, even if the aiming is a bit tricky but it’s clearly not the best example

Mate I mean even though the A7V has 18 crew an L3 can disable them all since they have like what 10mm armor? WW1 vehicles should get extra RP and SL for kills/zones/etc since they are damned slow and paper weak.

The thing is, them extending BRs to accommodate WW1 and early interwar vehicles is believable as

  1. It doesn’t solve compression at all, doing so about as much as the new tiers we receive on occasion do. Any changes to BRs would be in name only.

  2. They rather explicitly didn’t tag WW1 vehicles as event vehicles, which has only ever been done once for an IS-2 event vehicle they did a while back, which was very much an experiment and hasn’t been repeated since. This suggests that Gaijin is considering their implementation into the tech tree, or sees it as enough of a possibility that they don’t want the ability to have them in the normal TT removed.

  3. It would allow them to market the game as a way to playthrough the development of armored and aerial warfare. Saying your game spans from WW1 up to the modern day sounds very impressive (in part because it is), and can make for great taglines.

  4. WW1 is a really slept on market. There is absolutely a demand for the era to be depicted in War Thunder, and they can make good money in fulfilling that demand.

  5. The speed issue can be overcome by implementing maps with those limitations in mind, either by creating new maps or making smaller variants of current maps that focus on a specific area.

  6. It opens up new vehicles for implementation, such as the Czar tank and maybe even Bob Semple. WW1 and the interwar period also has no shortage of interesting prototypes and production vehicles that would make for awesome additions.

  7. And, most importantly (for Gaijin), it would allow them to extend the grind of the game, even if only by a little.

Even if you were right, which i hope, this would take ages to do. In the meantime, which will most likely be years, WW1 tanks need to be faster.

On a side note, l don’t see how they could implement any more WW1 tanks. There are maybe the CA1, Renault FT and some Marks left but that’s it. All the others have machine guns or terribly weak guns, good luck defeating an A7V

Not like we are in any rush. We don’t really need dedicated maps until we expand to WW1, and the tanks perform well enough considering their age.

As for WW1 tanks, any WW1 tier would almost certainly include the early to mid inter war era that isn’t currently depicted in game, so we have those tanks as options.

There are also a few WW1 (or vehicles built prior to 1920) that could be added. For the US at least, there is the Holt Gas Electric, which was armed with a 75mm gun from what I can recall, as well as the Holt Three Wheel Steam tank, which also mounted a 75mm gun. Also possibly the Ford 3 man tank, which was intended to be a better FT. It was built, and pictures of it do exist, the problem is, we don’t know what it would’ve been armed with. Likely would’ve had the same armament as the FT at minimum, though there is reason to believe it could’ve been had a bigger gun. Also, there’s probably a car or two with a .50 cal that could be added, seeing as how we already have a tank with the .50 as its primary armament.

Don’t know much of German tank development, but the K-wagon is a possible WW1 addition, being almost complete before the war ended, though it would probably be in a higher tier if the 2C is anything to go on. The LK ll also had a variant armed with a 57mm gun to my understanding, as well as a prototype armored car armed with a 20mm gun. Also a big wheeled tank, but it’s armament might be too weak to justify implementing

For Russia, the only real tank they have is the Tzar Tank, at least as far as vehicles prior to 1920.

This isn’t an exhaustive list, however. I haven’t touched France, and they made quite a few tanks. Nor does this consider the SPGs developed during the war, which there are quite a few.

It also doesn’t consider interwar developments beyond the most early examples, so there’s bound to be a few with comparable performance to WW1 designs that can be used.

And all of this was with a casual search. I’m sure a dedicated hunt could turn up far more designs.

We’re not but that means that WW1 tanks are unplaybale until a potential update that will take years to make.
In the meantime we could just buff their speed and nerf them again if that update comes

They are hardly unplayable. I’ve brought them out in both AB and RB, and while they have difficulties with some maps, they are good enough for event vehicle that are 20 years older then everything else they are facing.

They are good yes, but hardly playable, especially if your team is winning.
You spend most of the match running after a target and only get a kill when someone rushes you.
Your’e also a priority target for any bomber since you can’t escape any bomb.

They are good yes, but not fun at all. Buff their speed a little, around 15km/h and then they’ll become just as fun as any other tank.

Should be boosted in Arcade, RB stands for realistic, so stop complaining :)

I want a dedicated mode for them, but i’m also realistic so i just want them to be enjoyable, which means boost their speed indeed

What Gaijin will or won’t do isn’t really the point here. The point i’m trying to make is not BR decompression is not at all necessary for either of the two solutions I have proposed, and as such it’s hardly our fault if Gaijin take this route. Of course decompression is preferred, but there are certainly solutions that benefit the playerbase without forcing Gaijin to make this big a change.

I guess, but I’m still hoping that despite many of the more iconic WW1 vehicles be locked to limited time rewards, more will be added in the future, opening up the mode to all players once more and requiring an actual overhaul beyond just temporarily tweaking the vehicles to force them into 1.0 matches.
