I recently endeavoured to play the CR2 (base one) and so far have had the luxury of the most miserable stock grind I have ever experienced playing this game. To preface, I crewed this on a level 120 crew with nearly max stats in most of the 4 crew inside the tank, I also decided to buy a talisman on it since that’s more worth the GE than buying mods.
However, every match I have entered so far has been fighting both russia and germany, or russia and sweden, 3 nations which single handedly make my tank seem like a reserve vehicle when it comes to armour, mobility, penetration and similar reloads considering I am not buying an Ace crew for this. alongside this is the fact that you simply don’t possess top tier mobility, you physically cannot keep up with anything else on the battlefield, resulting in multiple early deaths to opponents able to position far before I even reach an objective/corridor.
Furthermore it has a very frustrating armour layout that becomes completely invalid when fighting rounds with more than 300-350mm of pen, this means you are faced with a vehicle that has the mobility of a heavily armoured vehicle, but the armour of a mobile one, a paradox that also applies to the merkava and is simply infuriating. Onto my next point, the maps I have played so far are exclusively CQB, the only opportunity I’ve had to go hull down ‘like a challenger should’ and it resulted in 3 kills but I was swiftly killed by a KH-38MT.
I’m aware that this turned into a general top tier rant but nothing that you have to grind so long for, should be forced to compete in a matchmaker where it is completely and utterly outmatched, to summarise the shortcomings of the challenger (nearly all of which are inaccuracies or bugs that need to be addressed anyway) are the L27A1 round, poor transmission, poor armour (bugged), poor mod layout (4 essential mods are in rank 4, whereas rank 3 only possesses a single important mod), sorta requires an expert/ace crew just to play, relies on long range engagements until buffed, outsped/outreloaded/outarmoured by nearly any and all opponents at the BR, and if you do well then you are faced with oppressive CAS and no counter (maybe the ADATS since it got buffed recently)
Any tips on how I should play this tank or approach the challengers in general would be much appreciated because I am considering dropping this tank outright in favour of playing my Type 10s more.
It had a faster than average reload rate of 5 seconds and therefore it must be on par with all other tanks still because it had that advantage. As we know. Reload rates are always used for balance and so only weaker tanks get the reload rate buff.
Problem is you can’t really buff below 5 since that is fastest autoloaders in game territory and MBTs besides Type 10 don’t really belong in there, however I think gaijin needs to bite the bullet and actually devote some time and effort into fixing the core issues with the CR2, being the armour and round
There is no 10.3 that couldnt one shot a CR2 with ease. Id quite confidently argue that the Challenger Mk3 is an overall much better tank than most CR2s. With the exception of the thermals (which the CR1 is missing Gen 2 Thermals) and the L27A1 shell.
If the removed L27A1 from the CR2, could quite happily be 11.0. I see no harm in lowering most to 11.3/11.7 in their current state.
@WalletWorrier just to clarify I am not campaigning for compression here, in my ideal WT, top BR would be 12.7 and would contain the Leopards and T-series tanks, with 11.7 containing the ariete and CR2, with the other top tiers in between
This is a post regarding my first matches of british top tier, and discussing the issues plainly available with it, if that’s too much to handle then leave. Besides I am far from a brit main, 1 glance at my post history or stat card will show that i play everything
Able to get to 50kph in a short enough time period forward, traverse fast enough, and get to reverse speed fast enough.
As for round, I’m not going to call rounds within 3% of 3BM60 anything other than at least decent.
It’s a usable tank, merits are certainly there in sights and turret arnour, however I simply don’t think these warrant it being 11.7, it doesn’t hold a candle to any competitors at a similar BR and is now on par with most NATO tanks for reload rate
Leclerc ammo is equal (564mm vs 575mm is literally nothing), protection of the Leclerc is basically unchanged to the 9.7 BR AMX-40 and the only improvement is that the Leclerc is decently fast (and yet not fast enough, hyperbar engine and full top speed need to be implemented)
Count your blessings that your hull can actually stop 105mm ammo from the sixties, because the Leclerc hull can’t. And your gun mantlet will at least soak up WW2 era APHE, unlike the Leclerc. 2S38 can oneshot the Leclerc through the gun mantlet.
