BUK M3 is ridiculously unreliable

Today I’ve used Buk almost all day and in one match I had several failed attempts to make the missile fly to the target, let alone hit the plane.

It happens that the radar (the one on the launcher, not the main radar unit because it is not reliable anyway.) locks on friendly planes and helicopters but that is not even a problem, the bigger problem is that there is a ghost target in the floor and the radar often locks on that very target in the floor and then it happens that simply because of that mistake I do not fire the missile at the plane but into the floor.

It often happens that the missile takes off from the launcher, makes a 360 turn and just crashes into the ground. I do not know what causes this, but I see that I have more success with Pantsir than with Buk.

what he said

You do know that those are almost always wrong right

The 9M96E (NOT the E2) has 40 km of range, it would probably be a pretty good choice if the S-350 were to be added.

yeah i know… my suggestion got declined tho:

9M96’s are active radar homing, same as the Buk

Gaijin could fix this thing, fix the radar on this thing which is very slow and can only detect an enemy aircraft if it’s flying high. Tel’s radar is literally better. And the worst thing is that an absurdly large missile of that size can’t destroy a plane flying 30-40 meters above the ground because of the multipath, HAHAHAHHAHA, it can’t even destroy or hit helicopters even if they explode nearby. I was playing on a desert map, Sinai I think in its large version, when literally an F-18 came flying slowly meters above the ground from my direction. I fired all the missiles from both launchers and guess what? It didn’t cause the slightest damage. And you can even fly high, just do some maneuvers with chaff and the missile will miss. The BUK is crap, a complete and unusable piece of shit because of Gaijin. Pantsir is better in every way. If anyone says the BUK is OP, that person deserves to be institutionalized. She’s in a mental institution, dressed in a noose, and cannot be allowed to live in society.

this wouldnt fix anything, 90% of the problems with the buk are because of pre-existing issues with the game, its an ARH missile, with thrust vectoring and a very good radar to get datalink from. what does that mean ingame? that its a bundle of bugs and unaddressed problems. there needs to be a rework of ARH seekers as a whole right now theyre absolutely terrible. s300v would suffer from all the same issues. much like most other arh sams suffer from similar issues.

its outright dumb how Ground ESA Search radars are modelled, the might as well be mech scan.

Gaijin should rework all ground radars. The current radar simulation is actually just garbage. Gaijin apparently thinks radars can’t resolve multipath effects when multipath resolution has been something radars with DSPs have been able to do since the 1970s. The ARH SAMs we have in game are all at least from the late 90s (SAMP/T) to the 2010s (Buk-M3) and even the 2020s (HQ-11) and should easily be able to resolve even heavy multipath effects. In addition, Gajins outright refusal to model helicopter blade Doppler returns means that Helis with LDIRCM are now immune to all types of SAMs with minimal effort. They’re already invulnerable to IR missiles, can duck behind cover to avoid SACLOS SAMs or just outrange them, and can just chaff and move 30 meters to the side to avoid ARH missile angle gating. It’s a lot of unrealistic stuff for a game priding itself on realism (and parodying other games for their lack of it.)

Well adding s300 would be overkill anyway, because BUK can kill targets at 35+ km if not multipathing or notching but even if they wanted to add it. We dont have maps large enough, and people would cry everywhere like they always do.

They are just ‘fast Mech’ atm. It had issues right from the start with Pantsir and Tor, but no one cared about Tor, and Pantsir is regardless still the best by far, so it was ignored.

I mean it was overkill back in dev, killed everything in view. Now it sucks. Gaijin always does it, where a strong vehicle is nerfed to the ground. Things don’t have to be so extreme.

i feel like the radar is the main problem mate
