MBT 70’s reload is .5 seconds slower than the KPZ 70 Despite being the same exact vehicle with the same exact autoloader. The only difference between the tanks is just the crews.
IRL they had the same reload, but you would need a source Gaijin accepts because ¯_(ツ)_/¯
iirc the US’s one was limited for extended durability purposes, correct me if i’m wrong.
Yes, it’s basically that, the MBT-70, US version uses a longer reload proccess, as the German uses a faster, intented to the project.
wasn’t the reload mechanism manufactured by two different companies?
edit: had a stroke with that sentence 🤣
iirc Gaijin based the Autoloader times of their respective domestic manufacturer, the Rheinmetall AL was faster but also crushed the Shillelagh ATGM casings when trying to load it so it has a longer manual loading time when using them.
From what I recall the German one could load regular rounds faster but was prone to damaging missiles (which is why the missiles take like 20 seconds to load manually)
meanwhile the US loader could do both missiles and regular rounds but with the caveat of being slower with both rounds…
Actually its 1.5 seconds slower, and irl germany try to manufacture their own autoloader which is better but has alot of trouble. That autoloader even tho troublesome does load faster than the american one
And the reason why atgm reload are different because germany isnt interested in the Shillelagh so there autoloader suck at reloading the atgm but the US is the opposite which is why atgm reload on the US -70 is faster than the German -70
Reload time of the US -70 was average around 7.5 seconds(7-8 round per min) for stability and make sure the autoloader doesnt kick the bucket, tho it can load faster at around ~6.7 seconds max(9 round per min)
The German -70 again average around 6.0 sec(9-10 round per min) and it cannot overcharge like the US -70 autoloader so the loading time was likely around 6-6.5 sec, tho it didnt work very well regardless
The only difference between the tanks is just the crews.
The German KPz 70 also carries 4x more smoke grenade launchers on each of the turret sides than the U.S. MBT-70:
German KPz 70:
American MBT-70:
as well as different coaxial machine guns:
The German KPz 70 also has a slightly more powerful engine with overall horsepower as well.
As for the different autoloader speeds, the German KPz 70 uses a Rheinmetall version instead of the American OTO Melara version. This did make in particular the APFSDS and HEAT shells on the XM150E5 cannon be loaded faster, but the Rheinmetall autoloader noticeably cracked the plastic ATGM outside casings of the Shillelagh missiles while in operation, so they had to be hand loaded, whilst the U.S. MBT 70’s autoloader was more compatible and hence loads the ATGMs faster but not the other aforementioned shells.
and it has slightly better armor coverage on the front hull(its like very tiny-fuel tank slightly bigger too)
