To make this (in)visible:

This is the final straw, refusing to fix it even now.

That video shows something subtle that has also occured post Leviathan, on top of the size of contacts.

Even if you can see the contacts, they “blend in” with the environment more than they used to, which has the net effect of making them seem semi transparent.

I think it’s related to them accidentally breaking this feature from 1.53 when Gaijin dialed up the contrast of planes to make them both more visible against the environment, and easier to see how they are maneuvering. That effect is clearly gone now.

the image dynamic range was increased 8-16 times, and this means that if earlier at shorter ranges (up to a kilometre) a glimmer on a plane’s wing could practically “disappear” before by blending in with a neighboring non-glimmering surface, then now you can more precisely detect an enemy aircraft’s orientation and the manoeuvres they’re performing.

To be honest, this entire bug issue feels like a classic software case of “new guys broke something that old guys who don’t work there anymore wrote” The enhanced contacts visual system was added in 2015. I would not be surprised if the current devs accidentally busted it with Leviathan, and are trying to dig up the ancient code to understand how it even functions and how to retrofit it to work with the the new graphics engine updates.

Now instead of playing the game I just look at forums so that I can complain about how horrible it is. LOL.
Do they not have game testers so they can work out the bugs before they release a huge update?

Has anyone been successful at getting extended premium time because of this?

I haven’t touch WT for 2 weeks lol. Meanwhile, I’ve been getting back to DCS & IL-2 and checking the forum every darn day for a fix by Gaijin. This is just sad.

Also please someone drill a hole to a thick skull of [MatrixRupture] in bug report, that guy is firmly believe that the new spotting mechanic is good and realistic…

Is he back.

Meanwhile, the third week of the patch was underway. Perhaps this is the best patch Gaijin has ever made in favor of DCS. We’re not playing the game—we’ve just been sitting on the forum for two weeks now, hoping they’ll remember us.

They really need to make this fix a priority.

Oh my word it’s awful.

I just can’t see anyone. Massive bomber formations are almost invisible. You can literally notice the moment aircraft go straight up invisible probably barely a mile away.

I had two moments last night where both me and another player blatantly lost sight of one another. One instance was a P-51 I was fighting against in a scissor (so very close range) and as I was wounded I tried getting distance to escape. Normally this would only postpone my death but nope! I probably blurred into the sea… I literally saw a blurry P-51’esque object floating around trying to spot me as I waddled away.

After this a P-47 dived on me. I do a quick barrel roll to evade and as I’m watching him zoom climb away… poof gone. The only maps that are playable at the moment are the winter maps where you can see aircraft contrails.

Gaijin… please… fix this mess. I’ve tried all of the settings available to me as a Ps5 player and nothing helps. Your game is borderline unplayable at the moment.

Today is 2 weeks I haven’t been able to play the game, meanwhile I’m still paying for premium, lol.

I play @1080 p and I spot targets perfectly fine. I recommend y’all to set your resolution lower

This problem is severely hampering for players in VR. I don’t think lowering the game resolution is going to help VR players.

I thought vr players always had issues with spotting so it’s nothing special there

No not really. I’m a VR player. Just before the Leviathans update, spotting was very good and you could actually see planes at render-in range and up close.

Now, planes are much more faint at a distance which is especially bad because of how the dot rendering / spotting system works where contacts will pop in and out depending on a bunch of factors. And now also up close, planes are extremely difficult to discern against the background. Especially the ground and the sky. Plane sillhouettes will “blend” against the ground and sky as if they’re see-through. The only reliable way to keep track is if they’re turning hard, you can see their very visible wing trails, or if they’re shooting.

Every major update they break something with VR that takes a long time to fix. Seeing in VR was in a good state just before the Leviathan update, now it’s extremely frustrating.

This is not an EXCUSE for Gaijin to not fix this mess. You are all act like it is fine for player that can afford a better PC and good monitor to have a worse gameplay than people with a barebone potato

dude. you can switch the resolution. if YOU don’t want the fix to your problem that’s your own fault. vr is fried tho

Why insist? Even the devs acknowledged it in the bug report

Dude, in what Bizarro world do you live in, where the solution to a software developer who clearly BROKE THEIR OWN GAME, is to demand that customers drop their resolution to near minimum specs to be able to play?

  1. Even dropping resolution to 1024, the contacts are STILL smaller and less visible than they were.
  2. Dropping to 1024 from 4k is roughly 25% of the previous 4k resolution many were playing at, so surprise, the entire game now looks like dog poop.

So hey I get it, the bug has affected you personally to a minimum degree because you already running on a near minimum spec bucket of bolts. But don’t expect the playerbase with decent rigs to have to drop down to minimum specs to be able to see anything. That’s not the solution.

Gaijin broke it, Gaijin needs to fix it. ASAP
