Buff M39

M39 can very much rival Mauser BK27 (non swedish) in some of the lowest damage output per round in the entire game. And no, don’t get me started with the “it’s just a click it does nothing”, with just a click i’ve downed F-104s swooping by at supersonic on the yak130. Or the MiG21. The gun is terrible and it is literally the only redeeming factor the f-5s could have kept but it’s all gone. The main thing the f-5s are for in this game, gunfighting, can’t gunfight cause the rounds ricochet and spark all around. https://youtu.be/LecntDviS-U?si=2rskXzeURhMeCmCQ

Tomorrow I’ll show gsh23l results. The iconic 104 click got corrupted, thank you windows.

Dude I just watch the video holy cow skill issue god damnnn…

The cannons are fine. There have been a few times where the fire rate has angered me (enemies flying in between rounds).
In your video, it seems that you are over-committing to try and get a shot off rather than positioning yourself to get an easier kill. Yeah, a round did ricochet which is sad, and rounds do sometimes give you hits, but maybe a “hit” is a 20mm armor piercing round that did significant (depends on what significant means) damage to the wing that dogfighting will be a lot tougher. Your previous “clicks” may have fired off high explosive, downing those aircraft.
Use the F-5s superior and overperforming maneuverability to get into a better position. The F-5 can absolutely out-maneuver many, if not all aircraft, if played correctly (whether that be using speed, flaps, or even flat turn-fighting).
You’ve got over 800 games on the F-5C, which is very nice. That should be decent enough games to realize the F-5C superior FM.
I’m fine with having this inconsistency of a gun because F-5 is still a very fun aircraft to play nonetheless :)

Is the ricochet “a skill issue” man? i 1 tap enemies with gsh23l in those situations. I LITERALLY click on enemies with gsh23l.

One needs to play very aggressive on the f-5c or you won’t eat anything. It’s the literal zero of supersonics except you cannot turn fight a zero but you CAN turn fight an f-5 under most situations outside of the mach 0.94 rate fight. There’s no position stuff, i one click people with gsh23l and adens in these situations. That’s literally how you play jet RB, there is no time nor space for positioning and dogfighting. The game files don’t lie either, M39 has much less HE filler than other guns of the same rank.

This is more due to the massive shell drop where after barely 500 meters away the shells travel at 500m/s. GSh23L conserves momentum, spawning at 700 and despawning at 600 plus reaching further. My favorite gun is the GSh23L for a reason. Easier to aim (because of the airframe), higher damage, much more clickability.

Tis true. You want to try and force the enemy into a dogfight, imo. I really enjoy dogfights in the F-5, and this could be bias since I’ve really only played the F-5T SCU so ¯\(ツ)/¯.
Maybe it’s just my playstyle, but…

Keyword is CAN. A fight can go either direction, with many factors playing a role in whether the fight will be favored for one side or the other.
But I do disagree with…

Positioning is key in the F-5. I usually go higher up (~3000-4000m) to boom and zoom on prey, and I can burn some of that speed using airbrakes and flaps to get within the optimal rate. Yeah, if the only round to hit was the two out of five AP rounds that don’t do too much, I would be pissed. But I don’t really have much problem with the HE rounds doing too little, imo.
I will say…

I agree. Despite the only time I’ve ever used the GSh23L being in the early phases of Nuclear Thunder, I quite enjoyed using that cannon.

Lastly, I personally don’t feel like the M39A3 cannons really need a buff. They have had their pissy times, but have not been that pissy where I don’t enjoy the F-5. Still a very capable aircraft with a decent gun. I’m not the best or worst at this game, nor amI good at creating points in an arguement, so I don’t really got much else to say.

Good lord thats the second-worst aim ive seen be used for evidence that a plane is bad.

No come on - be fair here. He was at least pointing in the right hemisphere as the target.

Hey JumboCultMan - you don’t happen to be visually similar to this fine marksman?
