Am I the only one that thinks the UK has no competitive lineup for this new BR range of Nuclear Escalation (8.7-11.0)? I’m putting together a couple lineups and it just feels like there aren’t really any great fighters.
And sure, at 10.7 we can have guided munitions through the Bucc S2B or the Jaguar GR1A, but it still feels a little underwhelming compared to what other nations have?
Is it even worth bringing the Sea Harrier FRS.1 for a fighter role when it’ll be facing a bunch of supersonics?
Without having to deal with things like the Mig-23s, the Sea Harriers are okay not great, but not that bad either (just need Seagles and AS.37s). Sea Harrier FRS1e holds it’s own fairly well in ASB in the 9.7-10.7 bracket, would be very solid if they ever fix it.
Britain though has a serious lack of fighters between the Hunter F6 at 9.7 and the Phantoms / Tonka at 12.0.
Ground attackers…
Buc S2B is fine, Seagles, AS.37 Soon™ and plenty of bombs. Jaguar GR1A is okay in a downtier, so should do fine as well, (really wish the Jaguar GR1A officially just became the GR1B got the upgraded RWR)
Just a shame the Hawk 200 RDA isnt 11.0. or the bracket isnt 8.7-11.3 so you can bring the Tonka or Harrier T10
P.S @Gunjob With the Buc S2B about to become a bit of a workhorse for Britain in this NE bracket, do you think you could use that to do some stick poking regarding getting it a Phimat Pod?
At 10.7 you can run the squadron Sea Harrier FRS.2 with four 9Ls — way better than the FRS.1. Britain’s 10.7 lineup only has solid CAS firepower and is weak for air combat. The Hawk 200 RDA has no chance in a turning fight.
They are referring to Air BRs, not Ground BRs as this is for Nuclear Escalation.
So Sea Harrier FRS1 (SQV) is usable at 11.0, given the bracket is 9.7-11.0 but the Hawk 200 RDA isnt.
Though the only difference between the FRS1e and FRS1 at the moment is the dual-rail Aim-9Ls, which is nice, but its not a huge upgrade overall.
It’s a shame the FRS1 (SQV) is the NAS809 config that returned to the Falklands in 1982 (though lacks the 809 skin) and not the late-1980s upgrades that include a better RWR (that would put it on-par with the AV-8S (late) RWR at the same BR) or the upgraded engine. I do also wonder what BR a Sea Harrier FRS1 would be if it was given 2x Aim-9M.
But for the Sea Harrier FRS1 to have a decent role in NE, they need to give it its missing Sea Eagles and hopefully even AS.37s. (Along with a host of other bug fixes)
Not a chance they fix anything with the GR9A, given they havent fixed anything with the intro of the AV-8B+, T10, AV-8B(NA), FA2, etc.
Heck, the FA2 has working EEGS that the FRS1 should also have, and its the same guns, in the same position on the same airframe.
I just dont think they care, heck, its been a year since Seagles were added and they still havent been added to the FRS1 after being told they will be added “Soon™”
That’s a fair observation. Given Gaijin’s track record with previous Harrier family additions, it is unlikely the launch of GR9A will resolve longstanding issues on older variants like the FRS1. The inconsistent implementation of EEGS between FRS1 and FA2, along with the outstanding Sea Eagle loadout promised over a year ago, are clear examples of lingering, unresolved bugs for the British Harrier line. They’re probably busy thinking up new premium top-tier packs to make money and couldn’t care less about these fixes.
Funny how the AS37 anti-radiation missile, never carried operationally by the Tornado GR1 IRL, got implemented in-game. It’s quite the dead weight for the jet.
I’d rather have Martel AR than nothing… ALARM would increase the BR too much making it a GR4 without the rest of the extra self-protection GR4 affords (BOL/TERMA/HMD/9M). From my NE testing ALARM was king.
And any NE match you’d bring GR1 to with ALARM, you’d be better off in GR4 and you can’t fly two aircraft at the same time… so what are we complaining about here haha.
I really don’t see all that many of them and those that I do tend to stay high and fast. SHARs would likely be operating lower. Edit to add - I’d be more concerned with MiG-21s at lower levels than anyone trying to play with a Foxbat at the heights where the SHAR is best.
Yeah, they rendered the GR1 totally DOA by having the brackets setup with it at the bottom. Should be a 10.3-11.3 bracket.
But still think it should get a limited number of ALARM to actually make it 11.7 worthy in GRB, rather than being forced to use an 11.3 CAS in our 11.7 lineup
