wonder if something like the 35mm oerlikon with Proxy Fuse rounds (or even AHEAD) would be effective against these threats

Pretty sure we’ve been using this already in the ME. The RAF Regt. used these against a good number of drones.

I don’t get why they haven’t put a pair of wheels on it like towed Rapier. Surely that would make it easier to move around rather than having to crane it into position.

Could still be in development and all. So they haven’t made a chassis like that for it yet.

Could we get combat wing tips and this cool XZ-429 skin??

It’s just moved with a forklift/telehandler judging by those slots in the base

AFAIK the plan is to stick it on the Patria CAVS we’re buying, once those start being delivered

Oh shit that sounds cool.

Moog has been very aggressively pushing to get the RIwP (SGT Stout turret) selected for that role. Somewhat unsubtly hoping they win.

For the Sea Harrier FA2, wasnt their a prototyped wing or something that allowed it to carry more amraams? I swear i saw something about something similiar to that. Would be a good upgrade for the current FA2

i think there was back when it was called FRS.2 or something

Only wingtip prototype on production FA.2s was the extended 6 inch (?) tip which was never used due to fatigue concerns

Yes the dual sidewinder pylons could be fitted with twin AMRAAMs allowing you to carry 4 amraam on the wings.

But these required the 8in extended roll fit wing tips to keep the planes stability in check.

What’s the source for that? I thought dual outer AMRAAMs was deemed aerodynamically impractical even with the extended wing tips.

No, they were deemed unpractical due to dropping of the 8in extended wing tips.

Had we continued with the role fit wingtips we would have gotten them.

6.4 and 6.2 (the tips are required for 4 amraam)

With the standard combat tips the aircraft had 0 stability margins and would have been very hard to fly straight.

With the tips the stability would have been good.

I really fancy the idea of 4 BOL 4 amraam and gun pods but we probably won’t get that.

How slowly it accelerates low speed (like takeoff) with two afterburning engines just feels wrong, it might not be but it sure looks slower than it should be.

I’ve tested its acceleration too 450 knots and it’s accurate.

Doesn’t matter much I guess, after 1min you’re well in front of everything but Starfighters anyway

I think a factor to consider is the various different variants of the Lightnings. F3 to F6 for example re-added the 30mm ADEN canon and increased the ventral fuel tank size. So the F6 is quite chonky for a lightning

What about 450-mach 2?
