Some RWRs don’t cover J band so that’s an advantage of J band.

Up-armoured Challenger A30 Challenger with 25mm applique armour plates on the turret cheeks, upper front and lower front armour plates.

This brought the armour up to:

Turret cheeks: 88mm (+ angling)
Frontal hull: 89mm
Lower frontal plate: 82mm (+ angling)

That armour isnt going to stop a ton at 5.3, but it would certainly help stop weaker guns such as the short 75mm on the Jumbo.

This added around 1.5 tons of weight bringing the tank from 31.5 tonnes to 33, not a huge issue with the 600hp engine.

Challengers were also fitted with additional track armour, such as this 1945 1st Polish Armoured Division one, which Gaijin could also add. If they combined these together it could make a reasonably uparmoured but still fast/deadly Challenger, possibly named Challenger “late”

Not that that matters anymore right? Didnt they make it so that all RWRs can detect all radars at least for A2A combat

There’s also the early version as well, with the original 60mm turret front. Approximately 40 vehicles were made with this.

You can tell the first image is an early turret due to the lack of the bulge around the coaxial.

So potentially there’s at least 4 A30 Challengers that could be in-game:

  • A30 Challenger (Early): Less turret armour and no APDS (balancing reasons) at 5.0
  • A30 Challenger (Mid): What we have now at 5.3
  • A30 Challenger (1st Polish): As above, except with optional track armour
  • A30 Challenger Stage 1: With the extra turret and hull applique at 5.7

hey now, is that a 2 1000lbs bomb mount for the underwing pylons along with retarded bombs for the over wing mounts? They would be amazing to have in game or is this not the export lightning… Also, never knew it could mount a camera, seems interesting.

Is there a bug report out on any of this?

There’s a general lack of the GP 1000lb bombs on the Saudi Lightning. The only one currently in the loadouts is the rare LD 1000lb that the UK barely used, let alone exported.
In general gaijin seems to have mistaken the 1000lbers for 540lbers when they’re depicted on the stands at air shows with slick tails and high-drag tails, and in Saudi service

The No.114 tail units make it pretty obvious they’re 1000lbers

Hey if you can make a good case for this, create a report and pass it to me in a DM. I’ll take a look.

Would make it possible to destroy a base with the lightning if the drag bombs came as well. would actually make it somewhat decent cas. so a definite +1 from me.

Also regarding British bombs we had 500lb MCs added somewhatrecently for the Beaufighters but every other plane is still using 500lb GPs which are much worse comparatively. Same with 250lb MCs.

So the 540s on the F53 should be 1000s allowing for 4x 1000lbers to be used? Though likely not the current Mk1s instead something more conventional like a Mk13?

Would be a good boost, though if it could keep the Mk1s then yeah, that enables a base kill per sortie. Would make it into quite a decent Sim aircraft

(also I wonder any chance it used napalm?)

So tried doing a bit of research on my own but no luck, anyone able to actually find any data on this loadout? (got it from the strikemaster mk.82 suggestion thread)

SUU-11 7.62mm minigun pods I believe? Beyond this picture I cant really find anything denoting their usage by the Omani forces. While sure, a TT strikemaster would be nice to have, I doubt we would see 1 so tried finding sources for a report to get us some nice miniguns on our Kiwi birbs instead of just the MMG pods as its likely to be a “catch all” plane.

If anyone has the stuff and experience bug reporting it go for it ^^ (missing/new loadout options are bug reported or so I am told?)

I assume I am not the only 1 who wants 4 miniguns on the strikemaster for defensive purposes ofc.

@Kobes-Kamov 's ticket on the use of twin 1000lbs partially covers it Community Bug Reporting System
Just doesn’t specify them being the GPs rather than LDs, although one of the photos shows it for certain with the 114 tail
Don’t know whether it’d be better to just retool that ticket to be more precise on what 1000lb bombs are appropriate

Ed:- apparently it was already ticketed but closed because TrickZZter thinks non-historical LD bombs are better 🙄

Potentially 6x if the case presented for having r3tarded 1000lbers available for the over-wing stations is legitimate.

Napalm/fire bombs are mentioned in the same Flight articles. Was raised earlier in the thread starting British Weapon Systems - Technical data and discussion - #2420 by Kobes-Kamov

What a suprise

If TrickZZter thinks the 1000lb LD bombs are better I personally won’t complain (even if it makes zero sense), at the end of the day its basically an artificial buff to the plane. I’m very much focused on getting the full 4000lb loadout and hopefully napalm bombs too.

However, if the bombs being LD instead of GP prevents them from being twin mounted (i cant see why it would be a problem) ill happily make a report for it though

On this note, I wonder if this logic could also be used to get the F.53 fitted with M77 Incendiary bombs ingame. We don’t have photos of them being fitted, but we know fire bombs were planned and the Mk77 would be quite likely.

Lightning F-53 is looking like it has some potential

Oh well. We cant be accused of not reporting things that would technically nerf us in this instance. I guess its worth just enjoy the Mk1s

They are, slightly bigger yield. You need 5x Mk13s for a base kill but only 4x Mk1s for a base kill. So they are a fair bit better.

that would be perfect as the F53 could then take out a base

The F53 currently feels completely pointless in GRB and also ARB in any kind of ground attack role. The rockets fire all over the place and never hit anything and you dont get enough bombs to do anything meaningful

gaijin might sell a few more F53 if they buffed it… wink wink gaijin

I boguht it basically for the lower repair costs in Sim (back then they were astronomical), but it would be good to have it a decent littel grinder, especially with the red top buffs

This is why you take all the rockets and set your ripple to continuous to fuck up one very unfortunate soul. It isn’t optimal, but it does the job.
