British Weapon Systems - Technical data and discussion

Yeah, and unlike the Red Top. I dont think it would be a smart idea for aircraft without flares as it would just result in a BR increase though I think we could argue for a slight expansion of rear-aspect lock angles instead

I cant see it ever being higher in BR than the F1 hunter. more of an intermediate between that and the Marut. If only we built the one with a reheat

I agree, full all aspect would be a bit ridiculous, but improved side aspect would be nice as it would let us utilise the missile properly

The Gnat had an incredibly high power to weight ratio, speed and rate of climb for a non afterburning jet.

  • 100 m/s climb
  • mach 0.98 top speed (~750mph)
  • 0.98 thrust/weight ratio (empty)

it would blow any other jet at 8.7 - 9.0 out the water.

Even its a full interceptor configuration, its thrust/weight would still be around 0.72.

I’d imagine it coming into the game at more like 9.3-9.7, even then I think it would be good. Throw in its good armament of two ADENs, good agility and its tiny size making it a pain to hit, it would be like a Saggitario/Ariete on crack.

i didnt realise its top speed was faster than the hunter, i was under the impression that it was roughly the same.

id certainly take two less ADENs for the extra T2W ratio

Worth a try:

Bare in mind as well, the Hunters in game I think are overperforming. Gnats apparently IRL use to slap the living hell out of the F-86s

hunters seem to be missing some drag but nothing too serious. One thing i know for certain is that the Harrier ought to be running rings around it but… we know the rest.

they kicked the hell out of sabres and migs both in training and in combat such as in pakistan

You’ll have to chat with Matrix, I think hes got docs for the Hunters. But yeah. Hunter I think have a little too much STR and the Harriers not enough

our harriers should hammer hunters and keep mig 21s at bay yet they cant even deal with a stock skyhawk

I was surprised when I first looked into its specs too.

It’s a very light plane with a very powerful engine for its weight. That makes it very fast and agile, hence why the Red Arrows used it.

The downside in real life was that it lacked modern avionics, but in War Thunder that isn’t really an issue.

That’s deltaV, because the missile has a sustainer instead of all boost, it’s slower but has more range.

Yeah, should also beat up F-5s and take their lunch money on a daily basis.

There is one tiny thing clawing at me…

I really hope these SRAAMs make it to live

you mean Yellowjacks?

From reading this I was under the impression that CAMM and CAMM-ER’s 1st stage boosters both bring them to around ~1160 m/s, with CAMM-ER then having a 2nd stage booster which brings it up to ~1558 m/s.

DeltaV being the change in velocity provided by each booster, with the CAMM-ER having an additional ~397 m/s of velocity added by the 2nd stage booster.

It states “speed after stage 2” as 1558 m/s for the CAMM-ER, is that not the case?

I believe both used it, when the Yellowjackets become the Red Arrows they continued using the Gnat into the late 1970s where it was replaced afaik

I know i was just being a git. the Gnat was replaced in 1979 with the T1 Hawk that they still use now, (i believe they are meant to retire the hawk in 2029 but there has been no replacement jet announced yet)

Ah ok lol, I’d love to see the Yellowjacket livery ingame when the Gnat is added.

Yeah I believe we’re considering a few options, I’m of the belief that Britain should be developing our own modernised jet trainer, but that’s easier said than done

Well we are still using the T2 Hawk so god knows what we are doing
