British Weapon Systems - Technical data and discussion

Yeah, though so far its been slim pickings on targets, have had games with 6-8 planes at once on my team and 1 guy spawns a plane on the other side xD

So it works?

So far so good, got a fair few kills. Not amazing but works.

I’ve done a few games, it works a lot more reliably now

The damage is still not amazing, but its enough that I find a single hit usually disabled most aircraft. Sometimes you’ll need a follow up shot but usually not if you aim right.

At the end of the day its a small warhead, so it makes sense.

well, I guess I’ll be spading the Rapier today!
Just have to make a spaa line up

Brimstone related stuff can be discussed here, we gotta stop hijacking the Rafale thread.

But yeah.

If Brimstone is resistant to chaff, then simply not make it resistant to chaff, its not the first time they’ve tweaked things for the sake of balance. Such as the state of BOL or the flare resistance of Aim-9Ls.

If the LOBL mode 2 is too strong because it has a large capture area, just make it smaller, again, not implicity ahistorical when compared to weapon systems like AJ168’s implementation. Heck, could even give it a largely IIR style targeting of having to physically lock onto a vehicle and fire using a tpod if they are really really concerned.

After that its just quantity mitigation, which should be done via SP cost as it doesnt limit their use in none-ground gamemodes like ASB.

You cant help but feel that much of their excuses given to date lack any kind of meaningful justification behind them, like the lack of CBUs could be put down to concerns over server integrity if used on-mass, but the Brimstone reasoning just feels a bit… weak.

If absolutely nothing else, I would love to hear their excuses for why we have Brimstone 1s and not Brimstone 2s

@tripod2008

Certainly possible but that’s from 1995~ this presentation is from 2006, I’d have expected that they would’ve known about M81, unless of course M81 isn’t considered as its not operated by a non-adversarial nation (well at the time atleast…).

Just had a bug in my rapier where the missile launcher was moving as it should but my optic wouldn’t elevate only depress so couldn’t actually lock anything up as I couldn’t look up 🤣

We had this discussion to death when GR4 arrived, and I don’t care to relitigate it. AJ168 only has MIL guidance, something we do not have, Brimstone has a SAL mode, something we do have. A made up guidance mode is only used (to my knowledge) when the only operating mode or alternate mode isn’t currently available in game.

AJ168 with MIL guidance = doesn’t exist in game
AJ168 gets EO as a stand in.

Brimstone, SAL, MMW & SAL+MMW operating modes available.
Brimstone SAL gets added.

Its pretty simple, and not currently up for discussion.

Remember when the PARS were first added?
They were Just Laser guided like Hellfires, and got later changed to fire and forget, wish they would do something similar with the Brimstone :(

Then why Brimstone 1?

If we are limited to have 0 FnF/multi-target engagement capability on the Typhoon. The bare minimum is we should have the historically accurate version of the Brimstone with comprable ballistic performance to what everyone has/soon to likely have.

Being limited to SAL only is one thing, being limited to SAL-Only Brimstone 1s is another entirely.

God I wish Britain even got an FnF heli.

Atleast you get an Chain gun )))))

Why any weapon? when a better version exists?

As I said, its a done deal. When mmW can be balanced it will be added. We are best place to get it as we already have the weapon in game, so it only needs the seeker adding. I’m not going over this again, you need to move on.

Cant wait for this Day :)

Me too, but the SP needed is going to be insane haha.

I don’t actually know that that M81 saw service but it was evidently type classified, was tested and at very least saw an initial limited production run, which was likely low volume as evidently documented. I’ve been trying to find evidence that it was canceled but there are so many potential avenues for this to occur and decision points there’s a lot to wade through to find an answer.

There are also other potential defeat mechanisms like the missile falling back on the last predicted point of impact (even an active obscurant system doesn’t deploy instantly, and IOG drift scales with remaining time of flight), to ensure hits and late activation of the seeker vs terminal homing corrections practically ensures that avenues of escape that do not maintain obscuration would not work, or force repeated deployment of a very limited number of system charges.

I just want to be able to delete convoys in ASB, currently only take Brimstones in a very specific configuraiton on the GR4 just because I happen to have a spare hardpoint for 3 to fit on, if it wasnt for that. They’d never be used. (and i’ve only ever fired them once)

I have something on Brimstone-3’s IOG system, and the level of drift is tiny and for the duration of flight is extremely unlikely. So smoking without moving atleast the length of the tank from your previous known position is unlikely to save the vehicle.
