Britain Naval Tree - What’s left to be added for all BRs

Especially as I feel renown is only a 7.0 due to the aa which repulse lacks

Hey. Battle ratings are assigned preliminary and can still change. However keep in mind vehicles may not be fully tuned at the time of the dev server / streams.

Regarding decompression, no news currently to report specific to to the major. That often depends on the number of available ships, players and several other metrics.

Thanks, hopefully it will go down before it comes to the live server and hopefully it decompression will happen with other br changes, I’d appreciate it if you could pass a little message on about it to the devs :D

So the repulse is our new top tier ship?

Can we expect nothing new for the next year or 2? Something actually new like HMS KGV or HMS Nelson?

I don’t see the point of grinding HMS Repulse if I’ve already got HMS renown spaded

I hope that perhaps Gaijin are considering multiple ships as part of the rank VI’s.

With the same BR, there is no point playing it.

Yep, would be really disappointed if all we got was a C&P of renown. Any meaningful differences on the dev server between repulse and renown

Yeah this is one of those rare cases where one is straight up worse with absolutely no recourse.

The only thing it has is the float plane

Yes, Repulse is worse in every way…

Its not even a C&P issue, they’re different, and the difference is… Repulse is just worse though she has a floatplane.

Major things like speed, guns etc is the same, however AA is very much not.

Repulse: Also AFAIK her 4" guns have no HE-TF round either so they don’t work as heavy AA.

Renown

Also consider Renown should get HE-VT soon.

So yep, 0 reason to grind it then.

Other than historical significance it serves little purpose over Renown or Barham aside from the floatplane and having some AA.

Sounds like it would have made a better 6.7 Premium than a 7.0 top tier for the TT

Then we would have complained that no R-Class BC was in-game.

Renown should have been TT and Repulse the event. However given they made that decision it is the next best thing I suppose.

still shouldn’t be 6.7 and hopefully not our final rank VI this year.

They would have done better to add them the other way round

So from the update since hood was added they could have added one BB every update and we would have only used the r and QE class. And we would still have more battle ships left to add than Japan has left to add

So I was exited about this update but with how they have treated the navel it just feels like we are going to get an upgraded QE by the time Japan has Yamato

@Smin1080p_WT can we get another confirmation if we are going to get more top battle ships for Britain this year as repulse is a joke of a top tier ship that could have come up to 2 years ago

So, HMS Repulse is not the best ship what we could get but I think lots of people in here has unreasonable hatred and vague impression that HMS Repulse would be worse. Let’s compare it based on what we have in-game

  1. What Repulse is better than Renown
    A. Armor
Where Repulse shines most. Renown removes 6’’ armor plates above main belt during modernization in 1930s to compensate new heavier superstructure, but Repulse didn’t as she didn’t get new superstructure. And those 6’’ armor plates sits where her crew compartment placed. So, while Renown crews could wiped out even by American 5’’ SAP, Repulse needs at least heavy cruiser’s 8’’ AP to delete its crew compartment.
Bridge is also great part of Repulse. While Renown has 4-inch armor on castle type bridge(funny thing that this is thickest castle type bridge among Royal Navy), Repulse retains traditional armored bridge with 10’’ armor.

B. Easiness of Auxiliary controls
Renown has only one type of auxiliary, 4.5 inch dual purpose guns. This means that you have to switch everytime for anti-ship and anti-air. On the other hand, Repulse has two kind of auxiliary. One is 102 mm /45 BL Mark IX, which is dedicated anti-ship auxiliary and cannot fire upon aircraft. The other one is 4’‘/45 QF Mark V cannon, which is dual purpose gun and considered ‘AA caliber’ with HE-TF loaded. So on Repulse, you just concentrate on anti-ship with 15’’ and 4’’ triple guns on, leaving long to close range AA on AI.

C. Hydroplane
Gem of Repulse. First Royal Navy capital ship with hydroplane. In domination, Repulse becomes non-repudiable choice.

  1. What Renown is better than Repulse
    A. More autocannons
    Yeah she’s having more autocannons.

B. Possibility of getting further shells
Renown can get 15’’ 6crh APC shell and 4.5 inch VT shell, but Gaijin already have excuse of that on case of American 14’’ AP shells. Not big trust on future.

So basically in War Thunder Repulse is just superior Renown. It would be better if two ships become 6.7, but even on 6.7, I’ll choose Repulse rathern than Renown.

Besides, in dev server when you try to launch walrus on Repulse, game crashed. This is big problem.

Repulse will be a competent ship but I don’t think her armour is better than Renown. The 6" armour doesn’t make that much difference given Renown’s exposed crew compartments only have handful number of crew allocated. In fact I play Renown a lot and I never find it hurt so much from small shells spamming.

On the other hand, the lack of main deck extensions to connect with the main armour belt leaves a lot of shooting traps where the shells can penetrate the 6" upper belt then strike the 2" slope deck, completely bypassing the 9" main belt. In addition, the slope deck abreast the magazine is reinforced to 4" on Renown as opposed to 2" on Repulse. IRL the Repulse received armour reinforcements earlier than Renown and it still followed the distributed armour philosophy, while Renown’s armour refit was more or less close to AoN which eliminated shooting traps.

I played several battles on dev server with Repulse and so far I don’t think her armour was as reliable as Renown
