I think it’s finally time for Gaijin to give the EF2k what it deserves. Since Russian planes already have high performance fire and forget ground attack missiles, the Brimstone should be given its realistic seeker capabilities to make it fire and forget as well. At this point, there is no reason not to do it and finally restore some balance to the game.
If they add the brims that you wish, would be ir or radar guided ?
The Brimstone doesn’t use IR guidance; it features a hybrid guidance system. The pilot designates the target via laser, and after launch, the missile’s own millimetric-wave (mmW) radar, takes over to track and hit the target. Furthermore, it even supports a “man in the loop” mode where the pilot can manually guide it. I’m not trying to be demanding, but at the very least, the radar seeker should be implemented to make it fire-and-forget, as it was designed to be.
Mode 2 MMW would be fine
SAL till the missile was about 7-9km away, then FnF. Full mode 3 should only be for air modes
Its gonna be mid no ? You need more time to lock a target plus its radar so there will probability that it can lock a dead body tank.
If its added i dont think it will beat the 38 or the spice
It is Gaijin’s job to ensure the missile doesn’t waste itself on wrecks instead of active tanks. While that’s a known issue with IR missiles, the Brimstone uses a hybrid system: the pilot paints the target with the laser initially, “handing off” that specific target to the missile’s radar. This means it should have a much higher hit probability than simple TV or IR guided missiles, as the seeker knows exactly which target to lock onto from the start.
Keep in mind that the Brimstone is much slower and easier for SPAA to intercept compared to other missiles. Giving it its realistic seeker wouldn’t make it overpowered; it’s just a necessary buff to make it viable. It’s a fair trade-off: high precision and fire-and-forget capability in exchange for lower flight speed.
And despite gaijins belief, I actually doubt MMW on the brimstone would be fooled by a destroyed vehicle unless the external damage was minimal
Even just implementing the seeker would be a step forward, but the real issue here is honesty. It’s time to make this missile realistic and admit that the current balance is non-existent. We all know that in this game, ‘realism’ is often arbitrary and applied inconsistently. If we want to talk about realism, then give the Brimstone its actual capabilities; if we want to talk about balance, then the EF2k needs this to compete.
Last I heard from gunjob. MMW was kicking their butts as they were trying to properly implement it but why they don’t just tweak IIR, call it MMW and call it a day is beyond me.
Failing that, just give us SAL Brimstone 2s. Substantially better performance, no issues regarding MMW. Slightly p*#@£&d that they weren’t added with the new typhoons.
100%, there is no excuse.
They can over pressure you from the other side of a building with Kh38’s but can’t have a Brimstone correct model… it gets old and it’s not fun.
I’ll hold out some hope for them when HAARM systems come online because they kind of do the same thing.
Potentially, we’ll have to see how ARM Is actually modeled before I make that judgement call.
From the Q&A, it kinda sounded like the ARMs were going to function like any normal IR/TV seeker but would just automatically target a radar signature
So probably need Line of sight, probably need LOBL and probably limited to 30 or so km
Honestly that missile is so smart you just dump them all and they talk to each other and divide them selves into the available targets equally.
Meanwhile IRL: They should be putting Brimstone and Barracudas with the same seeker heads on A-10’s to flood enemy air defence zones with radar target clutter and also hunts down Radiation and E warfare suits.
I think I did the math you could put something like 34 Barracudas on an A-10 and the Brimstones would range from 60km to 35km at low altitude and the barracudas have up to 230km range while still retaining 6x AGM65D’s for finishing off targets “in close”.
