My understanding was that they balanced mainly on SL/RP earnings converted into an ‘efficiency’ stat. If bombers take more hits, shoot down more fighters, survive long enough to bomb more targets and get a larger activity time bonus, they’ll earn more and thus get BR rises, win or lose.
Looks like most of the current issues on DEV are more of a result of 30mm ammo being to weak more than the bombers survivability being to high perhaps?
I might actually open up a thread at some point to discuss just how meaningful/representive/objective polls are. For one, people thinking there is no issue are probably less vocal and hence less likely to participate in the voting.
Not commenting anything against the result of the poll, but just saying my thoughts.
currently its tanking 6 pheonixs to the face, several hundered rounds of gau8 cannons (keep in mind gau8 cannons kill tanks with a 2-3 second burst), zuni rockets, anything and everything
Unbelievable then. Are you saying, according to stats, bombers and fighters at the same BR have similar SL/RP earnings? Would absolutely shock me if this is true.
That’s what Gaijin have told us in the past. Having read the other thread on this, doesn’t look like it would currently matter, bombers seem missile proof!
Don’t know how direct missile hits would work, but if it’s proxy fuse then I think it does make sense that bombers can tank shrapnels.
Edit: I just saw today a record of how a korean Boeing took a R60 hit and was fine.
The example on youtube was a B-17 tanking Phoenix missiles.
The R-60 has a 3 kg warhead, the Phoenix has a 60kg warhead.
The bomber survived 6 of them!
Given bombers are large to huge targets, are slow and have next to no maneuverability, I genuinely don’t see the issue.
so you have no issue with b17s tanking zunis, gau8 cannons, pheonixs? i thought u wanted realism
Ok, as a bomber enjoyer I’ll admit that is a bit much.
This makes a lot of sense. However, my A-10 is also big and slow so I would like Gaijin to give it the same treatment at the very least.
LOL
Warthunder is not a realistic game.
A-10 is also an attacker, not a bomber.
so you do admit that b17s tanking gau8 rounds is unrealistic, but you also want bombers to be invincible because “its defenceless”, stick on to one thing man
I said no such thing. Do not twist my words to fit your narrative.
I said bombers are slow and generally big to huge targets. This is factually correct. They tanking what they’re capable of now - given their generally extremely poor maneuverability and speed - is not overpowered.
If Warthunder were realistic, many things wouldn’t work like they do. Like the KV-2 - realistically - being unable to slew the turret on uneven terrain, let alone fire on it.
Or the Pr23 Sovetsky Soyuz being able to tank multiple 46cm salvos.
Edit
To add onto realism, do you really wanna fight an M1A2 abrams in a handcranked T-55?
No it doesnt, its 35kg?
Tbh i think they missed personally, which can be explain by the fact its a formation of three and the seeker was unable to distinguish which.
Yet some players take bombers, use the gunners and fight (they appeared at LEAST twice in thundershow recently). In today’s game it’s already VERY strong because you dont have to aim with your nose, you just have to point as many gunners on target as possible and spray. With some practise you get players like Lost247. Now make them unkillable with a reasonnable ammount of ammo and what ? The game is decided by how many bombers decide that bombing is boring and fight?
Maybe make a poll about that?
Sorry, we’re talking at cross-purposes. Explosive mass is 35kg, warhead weight is 60kg.
Even if they missed they looked close enough for the bomber to be shredded by the fragmentation pattern, rather than what was shown as ‘no discernible effect’
Other than crew loss and severing control/ fuel lines and such, what is the fragmentation going to do, it won’t slice through the spars or trusses.
